Minnesota District Tier I & Tier II Championships Set for This Weekend

St. Paul, MN – October 2, 2023 – The Minnesota Tier I and Tier II District playoffs for berths in the 2024 USA Hockey National Championships in April will kick off this weekend with semifinal action at the Plymouth Ice Center in Plymouth, Minn. Semifinal games for the Girls Tier I 14U, Girls Tier II 14U, Youth Tier 1 13O, Youth Tier I 14U, Youth Tier II 14U and Youth Tier I 15O classifications will be held on Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7, with championship games taking place on Sunday, October 8.

The champions at the Girls Tier I 14U and Youth Tier I 15 Only levels will move on to the National Tournament in Wesley Chapel, FL., and Fargo, ND., respectively, on April 2 – 7, 2024. The Youth Tier I 13 Only and Youth Tier I 14U champions will move on to the National Tournament in Plymouth/Novi, MI., April 2 – 7, 2024. The Youth Tier II 14U and Girls Tier II 14U champions will advance to the National Tournament on April 3 – 7, 2024, in Amherst, NY., and Sioux Falls, SD., respectively. Girls Tier I 14U – The Girls Tier I 14U semifinals will include the 2023 League Playoff champion Walleye (District 3) as the number one seed. They will take on the Lakers (District 6) in the first semifinal at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday on Rink C. The other semifinal matchup will feature the second-seeded Moose (District 8) against the third-seeded Green Giants (District 10) at 10:30 a.m. on Rink B.

Girls Tier II 14U – The Girls Tier II 14U Semifinals will include the 2023 League Playoff champion Lakers (District 6) as the number one seed. They will take on the Walleye (District 3) in the first semifinal at 6:00 p.m. on Friday on Rink A. The other semifinal matchup will feature the second-seeded Polars (Districts 4/5/9) against the third-seeded Moose (District 8) at 6:15 p.m. on Rink C.

Youth Tier I 13O – The Youth Tier 1 13O semifinals will include the 2023 League champion Loons (District 2) as the number one seed. They will take on the Polars (District 5) in the first semifinal at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday on Rink A. The other semifinal matchup will feature the second-seeded Voyageurs (District 11) against the third-seeded Rangers (District 12) at 12:30 p.m. on Rink C.

Youth Tier I 14U – The Youth Tier I 14U semifinals will feature the top three teams in the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Tier 1 Fall League Playoffs as well as Shattuck-St. Mary’s Prep School. The 2023 League Playoff champion Green Giants (District 10) will face off against the Loons (District 2). The Walleye (District 3), after a runner-up finish in League playoffs, will draw Shattuck-St. Mary’s in the second game. The Green Giants vs. Loons matchup starts at 2:15 p.m. on Rink A. The Walleye vs. Shattuck-St. Mary’s game opens at 2:30 p.m. on Rink C.  

Youth Tier II 14U – The Youth Tier II 14U semifinals will include the Walleye (District 3), who won the 2023 League Playoff, and will play the first semifinal against the Lakers (District 6). The second-seeded Moose (District 8) will square off against the third-seeded Green Giants (District 10) in the other semifinal. The Walleye vs. Lakers matchup starts on Friday at 8:00 p.m. on Rink A. The Moose vs. Green Giants matchup is set for 8:15 p.m. on Rink C on Friday.  

Youth Tier I 15O – The Youth Tier I 15 Only semifinals will also include three teams from the Tier I Fall League and Shattuck-St. Mary’s. The 2023 League Playoff champion Walleye (District 3) earned the top seed and will face the Polars (District 5) in the opener. The Blue Ox (Districts 11/12/15/16) will meet Shattuck-St. Mary’s in the other semifinal. The Walleye vs. Polars game starts at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday on Rink A. The Blue Ox vs. Shattuck game starts at 4:30 p.m. on Rink C.

Minnesota Hockey will also host District Playoffs at the Girls Tier I 16U and Girls Tier I 19U levels on October 25 at the East Rink at the St. Louis Park Rec Center. The Youth Tier 1 16U District playoffs will take place at the West Rink at the St. Louis Park Rec Center on November 7. Shattuck-St. Mary’s will represent the Minnesota District at the Youth Tier I 18U Classification.
