The CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Tier I Leagues provide the top players from each district or section a chance to play with and against the best players in the state. The Girls 14 & Under classification is for players born in 2004 and 2005. The Leagues are conducted in accordance with USA Hockey rules and all teams are eligible for USA Hockey’s Tier I National Championships.
The Girls 14U League is expected to have eight teams: Loons (District 2), Walleye (District 3), Polars (District 5), Lakers (District 6), Moose (Districts 4/8/9), Green Giants (District 10), Voyageurs (Districts 11 & 12) and Blue Ox (Districts 15 & 16).
The tryout process will begin in July with competition weekends starting in late August and running through late September. As part of the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance programs, there will be 18 on-ice skill development practices and eight off-ice training sessions in addition to the 12 League games and three League playoff games.
New in 2018, in partnership with TRIA, the first-ever Tier I Training Camp will take place August 10-12 at the TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center, and will allow participants an on-ice and off-ice training experience complete with dryland training, skill work, health and nutrition education, Fusionetics movement screening/education and TRIA Concussion Program and baseline ImPACT testing events.
The Green Giants jumped out to a commanding lead early, and eventually removed any doubt about who might be the best team in the district as Green rolled over the Lakers 7-1 Sunday at Plymouth Ice Center.
The victory completes a clean sweep of its competition as the Green Giants finished the regular season unbeaten, and kept it going through the playoffs.
Three of the Green Giants early goals come short-handed, effectively deflating the Lakers’ hopes before they ever got going.
Megan Goodreau got things started for Green with a score just 1:09 into the first period, and it was followed up with a pair of shorties by Madison Kaiser and Danielle Burgen over the next minute and 20 seconds as Green set the tone in its favor.
In net, Hailey Hansen (Blaine) held the Lakers scoreless through the first two periods, and finished with the win by stopping eight of nine shots she faced.
The Giants finished with the league’s top six points producers, led by 26 goals and 45 points from Isabelle Goetti (Andover). Rilee Winters (Brook Park) finished with 14 goals and 29 assists for 43 points, and Sara Kaiser (Andover) added 22 goals and nine assists to round out the league’s top three scorers.
As a team the Green Giants put up 147 total goals, over twice as many as any other team in the field. The Lakers finished as the second-highest scoring team with 66 goals.
The Green Giants now advance to compete in the Tier 1 National Tournament in Irvine, CA from April 4-8.
