TRIA Orthopaedic, UBS Financial and Jimmy John’s will be the presenting sponsors of the Youth 14U, Girls 14U, Youth 15 and Youth 16U Tier I Leagues and Youth 14U Prospects League this season.
Registration for the Tier I 16U (2005), Tier I 15 (2006 birth year) and 14U (2007 & 2008 birth years) Fall Leagues are now open. Teams will be comprised of players from Minnesota Hockey Districts, except at the Tier I 16U level which will go by high school boundaries and will begin the tryout process in June.
Competitive regular season weekends for 14’s and 15’s will begin August 27–29 and host sites will include Blaine, Grand Rapids, Moorhead, and Plymouth. In addition, each team will be responsible for scheduling select league games to reduce travel and time commitment. The Youth 16U League will begin its league schedule August 13-14, and its league playoff weekend is set for October 30-31. Host sites are set to include Blaine, Grand Rapids, Prior Lake, Shakopee, St. Cloud, and St. Louis Park. Minnesota District Playoffs for the Youth 16U classification are to be determined.
All teams from the Youth 14U, Youth 15 and Youth 16U Tier I classifications are scheduled to compete against national Tier I competition during the NAHL Showcase in Blaine the weekend of September 16-19. Girls 14U teams will participate in a National Invitational Tournament in Andover, MN on Oct. 22-24, and two Girls 14U select teams will attend a showcase tournament near Chicago, IL on Aug. 20-22. In addition, Youth 14U and Youth 15 leagues are set to form select teams to participate in the USHL Fall Classic in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Youth 14U Prospects League, which has grown to nine teams over the past two seasons, will once again offer players not selected for 14U Tier I teams with an opportunity to train and compete with each other in a fall league. The Prospects League mirrors the Youth 14U Tier I League dates and locations, and participating teams compete for the chance to represent Minnesota at USA Hockey’s Tier II National Championships.
Five teams from the 2020 CCM High Performance Fall Leagues represented Minnesota at the 2021 USA Hockey National Championships. For the first time ever, three Minnesota HP Girls 14U teams competed at the Girls 14U Tier I classification. The Green Giants of District 10 finished in second place, the Lakers of District 6 reached the semifinals and the Walleye from District 3 made their first appearance. The Blue Ox Youth 15 team made their third trip in four years to the Youth 15 Tier I National Championships, and the Walleye Youth 14U Prospects made the Prospects League’s first appearance at Tier II Nationals.
Minnesota Hockey’s Tier I structure was established in 2016 to enhance Minnesota’s community-based association and high school model by bringing together the most talented players from all over Minnesota for high-quality training, player development and highly competitive League play as well as providing a path to compete in the USA Hockey Tier I National Championships. The League schedule is designed to allow participants to play for their association or high school team.
