The Green Giants fought back from an early two-goal deficit, then went on to score the game’s next five goals to stun Shattuck St. Mary’s via 5-3 final Sunday afternoon at Plymouth Ice Center.
Blake Johnson (Ramsey) helped jumpstart the Green attack, scoring a pair of goals, including the go-ahead in the second period, as the Giants flipped the script.
Down the stretch, Johnson, along with Bennett Johnson (Lindstrom), Dylan Cook (Princeton) and Carson Wadel (Andover) all came up with goals for the Green Giants, who were thriving on the swing in momentum.
SSM’s Jackson Blake notched the game’s first two scores, coming 10 minutes apart in the first period as the Sabres played from ahead early. But Shattuck would not score again until the final two minutes as they tried in vain to close the gap.
The Giants clinch a spot in next springs Tier 1 National Championship tournament to be held April 3-8 in Plymouth, MI.
