CCM HP Girls 16: Day 1 Recap

Section 8A/AA - 10, Section 3A/AA – 1

Section 8A/AA opened tournament play in a big win as seven different players tallied goals in a 10-1 win. Sophie Robinson (Brainerd) opened the scoring early in the first half. Section 8 would tally five more goals in the half, including three from Mackenzie Bourgerie (North Wright County). Sydney Kanstrup (Mankato East) scored the lone goal for Section 3A/3AA. In the second half , Section 8 continued its offensive onslaught. Mandi Soderholm (Gentry) started the scoring at the 9:19 mark of the second half. Three other players would score for Section 8 in the half, including Ava Kistner (Moorhead) who added her second goal of the game later in the half. In goal, Nettie Kimble (Bemidji) and Gabriella Steele (Thief River Falls) turned away 12 of 13 shots in the win for Section 8, while Mckenzie Allen (Apple Valley) and Amelia Julian (Eastview) combined for 39 saves for Section 3.

Section 6A/AA – 3, Section 1A/AA – 2 (OT)

After falling behind 2-0, Section 6A/AA rallied with a pair of goals in the second half and defeated Section 1A/AA, 3-2, just eight seconds into overtime. Section 1 jumped out to an early lead thanks to goals from Ashley Koehler (John Marshall) and Brooke Power (Lakeville North). In the second half, Section 6 rallied to tie the game with goals from Estelle Jungels (Edina) and Marki Oberg (Alexandria). In overtime, Audrey Wethington (Blake) won the game for Section 6 in the early stages of overtime. Ava Christie (Blake) and Carly Greene (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) combined for 23 saves in the win. Corrin Hanson (Rochester Lourdes) and Anna Julius (Woodbury) made 22 saves for Section 1.

Section 5A/AA – 5, Section 4A/AA – 1

Section 5A/AA jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half and never looked back as Section 5 defeated Section 4A/AA 5-1 to advance to Saturday’s semifinal. Allison Pitlick (Centennial) kicked off the scoring for Section 5 at 3:55 of the opening half and finished the game with two goals and an assist. Allyson Qualley (Breck) tallied the other first half goal for Section 5. In the second half, Abigail Patin (Rogers) and Kensie Malone (Gentry Academy) added goals. Audrey Jackson (Mounds View) was the only Section 4 player to score in the game. Section 5 goaltenders Anna Gilgosch (Centennial) and Eliya Johnson (Coon Rapids) combined for 23 saves in the win while Sophia Cronk (Stillwater) and Rachel Kennedy (Hill-Murray) made 25 saves for Section 4.

Section 7A/AA – 2, Section 2A/AA 1

With 11 seconds remaining, Section 7A/AA forward Jamie Nelson (Andover) fired a wrist shot in the net to break a 1-1 tie and send Section 7 to the semifinals in dramatic fashion. These two teams were locked in a scoreless duel for more than 30 minutes until Sydney Langseth (Eden Prairie) got Section 2A/AA on the board. Minutes later, Katherine Abrahamson (Princeton) tied the game at one. Section 7 was led in net by the combination of Josephine Bothun (Forest Lake) and Amanda Pelkey (Andover) as the duo made 28 saves in the win. For Section 2, Olivia Rinzel (Chaska/Chanhassen) and Aidan Edge (Minnetonka) combined for 18 saves.
