Section 4: 5, Section 3, 0

Noah Cates tallied a natural hat trick in the third period to help give Section 4 a 5-0 victory over Section 3. Noel Parker’s shot from the point in the first period was tipped in beautifully by Luke Manning to give Section 4 the early lead. Dylan Mills buried a nice feed from Marko Reifenberger to make it 2-0. Cates’ first two goals came on breakaways in the second period. Manning circled behind the net and fed Cates a beautiful pass to complete the hat trick. Kaden Ericson made a few big acrobatic stops on Section 4 in the second frame.

Section 1: 4, Section 5: 2

Section 1 took the lead on a shot from the point by Joshua Ess. Section 5 got back into the game on a goal by Lucas McGregor with the assist going to Keegan Bauman. Action was back and forth until Tommy Klans helped Section 1 take the lead and then scored seconds later to put them up 3-1. Section 5 struck back however with a goal by Isaac Johnson. Section 1 added to their lead five minutes into the second half on a goal by Cory Checco. That proved to be all Section 1 needed as they held on for a 4-2 win.

Section 6: 5, Section 2: 4 (OT)

Edina’s Lewis Crosby caps a big come-from-behind overtime victory for Section 6. Clayton Phillips opened the scoring for Section 6 but Joe Molenaar and Nolan Sullivan gave Section 2 a brief lead. Bradley Amundson tied it back up. But it was Nick Michel who scored just before the first-period buzzer rang to give Section 2 a 3-2 lead at the break. Brian Halonen made it 4-2 early in the second, but midway through the period, Section 6 started hitting all cylinders. Bram Sheerer and Griffin Ness scored back-to-back goals. Then, in overtime, Crosby cut inside the opposing defensemen to create a shooting lane, then ripped one through traffic into the upper corner to give Section 6 the 5-4 overtime victory. Section 6 will play in the championship on Sunday at 2:15 p.m. on Rink C.

Section 7: 5, Section 8: 0

Hermantown’s Ryan Sandelin started the scoring and finished it for Section 7, who beat Section 8, 5-0, in a physical battle on Saturday night. Sandelin’s first goal was assisted by Jarret Lee and Garrett Worth. Travis Carroll added a tally with just 36 seconds to play in the first. Jack Burnson, Chad Nordean and Sandelin scored in the second period. Grand Rapids goaltender Zack Stejskal made some brilliant saves in the first period. He and Hermantown’s Cade McEwen combined to stop 23 shots for Section 7. Bemidji’s Mattew Fitzgerald and Northern Lakes’ Jaeger Reed stopped 26 for Section 8.
