CCM HP Girls Select 17: Day 2

Section 6: 5, Section 3: 0

Section 6 set the tone early. Stella Haberman scored first with an assist from Emily Oden. Jordan Hanson and Kristin Trosvig scored just 40 seconds apart to establish a 3-0 first period lead. Oden and Natalie Heising added goals in the final period to give Section 6 the 5-0 victory. Maddie Carlson stopped 8 shots and Jaela Obrien saved 5 to combine for the shutout. Lindsay Carlson and Bryce Boreen made 27 saves for Section 3. Section 6 will play Section 7 in the consolation finals on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. on Rink C.

Section 5: 7, Section 2: 4

This semifinal game turned into a high-scoring affair in the second period. Section 5 jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Kaylee Wood and Courtney Moser. Late in the period, Tristan Truax put Section 2 on the board with assists to Naomi Rogge and Emily McLaughlin. Within a span of 10 minutes and 13 seconds in the second period, eight goals were exchanged. Section 5 potted three in a row from Maia Martinez, Gabrielle Hughes and Paetyn Levis. Section 2 countered with goals from Krystalyn Hengler and Truax. Grace Zumwinkle and Anneke Linser responded with two more for Section 5. Lydia Passolt scored the game’s final goal for Section 2, but it wasn’t enough. Section 5 will meet Section 6 for the championship at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday on Rink C.

Section 8: 5, Section 7: 4 (OT)

This battle required extra time, with Kara Werth emerging as the hero, scoring the overtime game-winner with an assist to Madison Schultz. Section 7 got on the scoreboard first with Lexi Edwards’ goal, but Section 8 came roaring back with two goals of their own by Tiffany Hanson and Callie Fagerstrom to give them a 2-1 lead at the break. Both teams exchanged blows throughout the entire second period, which eventually sent the game to overtime. Emily Musielewicz and McKenzie Whalen combined to stop 36 shots for the win.

Section 4: 3, Section 1: 0

Cretin-Derham Hall’s Bree Osbourne scored the first goal of the game – and it proved to be enough. Joie Phelps and Morgan Helgeson added goals in the second period. Adriana Brehm and Margaret Cory stopped 13 shots for the shutout. Mallory Tidona and Gabrielle Suhr stopped 32 shots for Section 1.
