PLYMOUTH -- Mason Jenson (Rogers) recorded a hat trick Sunday that gave him eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) in three games to finish as the top point producer of the Final 54 Festival.

Jenson, an Ohio State commit, is one of four Rogers players who finished among the event’s top seven scorers, spread out over different teams. Cole Bumgarner had a goal and four assists, and Parker Deschene had three goals and two assists to give them 5 points, and Brock Cheslock had three goals and an assist that gave him 4 points.

At last year’s festival, Jenson finished amongst the top producers with five points (2-3-5), as did Deschene (3-1-4) while playing on HP16 teams.

Moorhead sophomore Tyden Bergeson produced six points (3-3-6) got the Blue 17 team, and Kyle Heger (Shattuck-St. Mary’s) reached six points (2-4-6) for White 17.

Rio Treharne (Eden Prairie) had a goal and four assists for Blue 17.

Grand Rapids sophomore Carter Casey finished with the top save percentage (.933), shots faced (60) and tied as the second-best goals-allowed-average (2.67) behind leader Cal Conway (Andover) at 2.00.

All the 17 teams finished the tournament with a 2-1 record and with a positive goal differential, while the 16s were all negative after Sunday’s crossover games that were swept by the 17 teams.

Ryder Betzold (Gentry) finished with a goal and three points, and Mason Moe (Eden Prairie) added a goal and assist as Black 17 rolled over White 16 Sunday morning at PIC, 5-1.

Black 17 jumped out early on a goal by Parker Deschene (Rogers) just 45 seconds in, and they were in control throughout, outshooting their opponents 40-14.

Mason Moe (Holy Family Catholic), who set up the first goal, added one of his own three minutes later on the power play, and Ryder Betzold (Gentry Academy) scored the team’s next two, and assisted on the fifth to finish with three points for the game.

In net, Gavin Breniuk (Elk River) stopped all five shots he saw in the second half, after Brady Krey (Omaha U16) made eight saves on nine shots in the first.

Mason Jenson (Rogers) recorded a hat trick and Kyle Heger (Shattuck-St. Mary’s) chipped in three points as White 17 held on for a 5-4 win Sunday afternoon at Plymouth Ice Center. 

The White squad went ahead by four goals at the half, and signficantly controlled play early on, tripling the amount of shots of Blue 24-8 through the first 24 minutes. 

In the second half, Blue 16 came alive Brock Cheslock (Rogers) finished with three assists for and Camden Langfeld had a goal and assist as the team nearly rallied from from the deficit. 

For the weekend, Jenson finished with five goals and three assists through the three games, and finished with multiple points in every game for the team that went 2-1. 

Tyden Bergeson (Moorhead) finished with two goals and four points and Rio Treharne (Eden Prairie) tallied three assists to help lead Blue 17 to a 7-3 win over Black 16 in the final game of the weekend Sunday afternoon at Plymouth Ice Center.

Tied at halftime 2-2, the Blue 17s hammered in five goals over the final 24 minutes, with Aiden Grossklaus (Woodbury) scored the game-winner just 1:49 into the second.

Bergesen scored his second, followed but goals from Gavin Katz (Shattuck-St. Mary’s) and Grady Dimberio (Rock Ridge). Brandon Mickelson (Moorhead) and Mason Minor (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) added two points.

Shots favored Blue 17 heavily, 40-16.

Aidan Finn (New Hampshire Mountain Kings) stopped 12 of 14 and Leyton Rinehart (Hill-Murray) made 21 saves on 25 shots for Black 16. At the other end, Cal Conway (Andover) and Owen Lunneborg (Fox Motors 16U).

Both teams finished the weekend 2-1-0.
