2024 Boys NIT: Day 1 Recap

Minnesota 18s 3, Wisconsin SRS 1

After a scoreless first period, the Minnesota 18s broke the ice in the second period of the NIT opener and piled on two more goals in the third. The Wisconsin Seniors got on the scoreboard late in the third period but it was not enough to overcome the MN 18s tenacity - shots 35 to 27 in favor of MN.

Minnesota 18s goals scored by Devin Berg (Minnetonka), Brooks Cullen (Moorhead), and William Dosan (St. Thomas Academy). Goaltender Lukas Marsalek (Holy Angels) saved 26 of 27.

Jackson Hoem scored for Wisconsin with an assist from Will McDonald.

Minnesota SRS 3, Wisconsin 18s 2

The second period proved to be decisive as both the Minnesota Seniors and the Wisconsin 18s score 0 and 2 in the first and third periods, respectively. The MN Seniors lone goal in the second boost them to a narrow victory, 3-2.

Trevor Aberwald (Champlin Park), Kamden Kaiser (Northfield), and Heath Nelson (Centennial) all net goals for the Minnesota Seniors.

Wisconsin goalscorers were Adam Sexton and Gus Thorp.

Michigan JRS 3, North Dakota 1

The Michigan Juniors scored in the opening frame and never looked back, adding two more in the second period. North Dakota buried a goal of their own in the third, but it was too late to get back into the game. The matchup proved to be close with shot totals finished 27-26 in favor of North Dakota.

Owen Hall scored twice for the Michigan Juniors, teammate Ian Kastamo scored as well and added an assist to his point total.

Tyson Ulmer scored for North Dakota with an assist from Garrett Winjum.

Colorado, Michigan SRS

The Michigan Seniors start the matchup on fire with a four goal first period. Colorado wakes up in the second and both teams score 3. The Michigan Seniors added another goal in the third for good measure, winning the matchup 8-3. The ice was tilted in favor of Michigan all night, outshooting the Colorado skaters 49-11.

Henry Balasia, Luke Mikkola, Sebastiano Iavasile, Nolan Galda, and Grant Lucas score 1 each for Michigan. Cameron Duffany records a hat trick.

Goalscorers for Colorado are Nolan Williams, Hayden Williamson, and Ian Beck.
