Summary

This week's Drill of the Week features a continuous 2-on-1 that keeps players moving and offers a progression that rewards defenders with a chance to join the offense.

DESCRIPTION

  • There are two goals on either side of the zone, with a line across that, which O1/O2 and X1/X2 must stay completely behind. There are defenders in the middle of the ice above the blue line and forwards in line for the O and X spots.
  • O1 and O2 take a puck and skate towards the far net. D1 swings out and takes the skaters in a 2 on 1.
  • O1 and O2 try to score, while D1 tries to stop them. If the puck is saved or goes behind the line, then X1 and X2 take their puck and attack the far net, while D2 swings out to play them 2 on 1.
  • A variation that can be added is that if the defenseman steals the puck, they can pass to their forwards and join them for a 3 on 1 on the way back.

KEY POINTS

  • Passing.
  • Maintaining gap control.
  • Moving at a high speed.
