Summary

This week's Drill of the Week comes from Steve Carroll, an assistant Women's Hockey Coach at Gustavus Adolphus College. This is a shooting drill that focuses on getting the goalie comfortable making saves while moving across the crease.

DESCRIPTION

  • The coach puts 12 pucks in a line from about five feet from the top of the crease toward the blue line.
  • Goalie gets in the butterfly position at the top corner of the crease.
  • The drill starts when the coach says go. The goalie uses the butterfly push technique to move across the top of the crease laterally as the coach shoots the puck in the direction the goalie is moving.
  • After the goalie makes the save, they use the butterfly push technique to move in the other direction.
  • Repeat back and forth until all pucks are used. Rotate goalies after 12 shots.

KEY POINTS

  • Lateral Movement.
  • Focusing on the puck while moving.
  • Building confidence.
