Summary

This week's Drill of the Week comes from Dustin Vogelgesang, who is the Head Coach of the East Ridge High School Boys Hockey team. Dustin has been coaching youth and high school hockey for the last 20 years, with his past 9 years in East Ridge.

DESCRIPTION

  • F1 starts skating with the puck, then passes to F3. At the same time, F2 skates forward to the far blue line.
  • F3 rotates the puck to F4 and skates into the zone on the far side.
  • F1 supports the puck through the middle of the ice, looking for a pass from F4.
  • F2 skates back towards the zone they started in.
  • F4 makes a pass to F2, who is coming through the middle, and jumps into play by following F2 as the second wave of attack.
  • F1 gets the puck and then gives a flat pass to F2 before F2 enters the zone. F2 needs to control their skating to get a flat pass.
  • F1 drives the middle lane with their stick on the ice for a pass or rebound.
  • F2 skates the puck down the wall into the zone. They then have three options: Shoot on net, pass to F3 on the far side, or pass to F4, who is arriving last.

KEY POINTS:

  • Skaters must control their pace.
  • Taking good routes into the zone.
  • Players must choose the best option and be ready for the puck.
