Summary

This week's Drill of the Week comes from Bemidji State Women's Associate Head Coach, Amber Fryklund. This warm up drill focuses on getting players moving and allowing for creativity from players.

DESCRIPTION

  • Each line has pucks. On the whistle, the first player from each line enters the playing area.
  • Skaters are using the whole playing area to stickhandle, pass to the next players in line (and get passes back from them), and shoot on any net.
  • On the next whistle, the first players go back to their line, and the next players in line enter the playing space and repeat.

KEY POINTS

  • Players need to be sure goalies are ready for the shot, and shots should be from the tops of circles or above.
  • If a player scores or loses their puck, they ask for a pass from a player in any of the lines.
  • Players stay in the playing area puck handling, passing, and shooting until the whistle.
  • Coaches can add pressure in the playing area to add another element to the chaos.
  • Players need to keep their heads up as there are a lot of players moving around, passing, shooting, etc.
  • This drill can be modified to a smaller space if you have fewer players.
