Girls 15 Summer Camp Recap: Day 1

Royal 7, Sky Blue 2

Maddy Kimbrel (Orono) had four goals and one assist and Julia Gerdes (Andover) had two goals and one assist to lead Royal to the win.

Kimbrel scored twice in the span of 32 seconds in the first half and added an assist, as Royal led 3-0 at the midway point. Kimbrel added two more goals in the second half and was one of four Royal players to score in the second half, which included a combined seven goals.

Libby Moe (Edina) and Brynn Laska (Stillwater) scored for Sky Blue in the loss, while Talyn Anderson (Detroit Lakes) and Sarah Johnson (Mounds View/Irondale) combined for 37 saves.

Red 1, Green 5

Reece Ruska (Osseo) scored twice in less than five minutes in the first half and three of her teammates scored in the second half for Team Green.

Ruska tallied the lone two goals of the opening half to help Team Green to a 2-0 lead, as Kayla Swartout (Holy Family) stopped all 11 shots Team Red generated in the first 24 minutes.

Tessa Boden (Champlin Park/Coon Rapids), Cate McCoy (Edina), and Ellie Stewart (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) all four the back of the net in the second half for Team Green. Stewart also recorded an assist in the win, while Taylor Krieg (Rosemount) scored the lone goal for Team Red with 6:14 left.

Gold 4, White 4

Team White led 3-0 after the first half before Team Gold rallied in the second half to take a 4-3 lead with less than five minutes remaining. Trailing by a goal, Team White tied the game with 22 seconds remaining on the second goal of the game by Annika Eggert (Minnetonka).

Goals from Eggert, Alaina Gnetz (Woodbury), and Hannah Jones (Orono) gave Team White a 3-0 halftime lead despite Team Gold holding a 14-13 advantage in shots on goal in the opening 24 minutes.

Ella Pinnow (Eden Prairie), Kylie Amelkovich (Shattuck-St. Mary’s), Kathryn Zakrajsheck (Breck), and Talla Hansen (Breakaway Academy) scored four-straight goals to give Team Gold the lead, but Eggert’s second goal of the game in the final 30 seconds ended the game in a tie.
