Section 2A/AA continues to put up big points with its big three weapons; Louis Wehman (4 goals, 3 assists), Gavin Uhlenkamp (4g/2a) and Ashton Schultz (5 assists), as the Grey shirts skate into the finals with a 7-1 win over 6A/AA Sky Blue Saturday.
Uhlenkamp and Brayden WIllis, both from Chanhassen, scored a pair of goals to lead Section 2 past to a six-goal win the Greys led from start to finish.
Their opponent in the final (5:45 Sunday - Rink A at PIC), is Section 8A/AA, who rallied from two-goal deficit with less than two minutes to go to tie, and then defeat Section 3A/AA in a shootout, 4-3.
The White jerseys from the northwest corner of the state escaped certain defeat when Brooks Cullen (Moorhead) and Kole Mears (Elk River) scored a 10 seconds apart to push for overtime. Grady Magner (East Grand Forks) assisted on both.
Section 3AA (Green) will play in the third place game against Section 6 (Sky Blue) prior to the final with a 3:45 puck drop.
Will Burnevik (Champlin Park) scored twice and added an assist, while Heath Nelson (Centennial) added a goal and three assists as Royal Blue (5A/AA) rode a big second half to topple 4A/AA Orange squad 5-2 Saturday morning at Plymouth Ice Center.
Big shot advantage for Blue, 42-16.
Section 1A/AA forward Will Kortan (Lakeville South) scored three goals to help drive the Orange squad past the Whites from Section 8A/AA via 7-1 final Saturday afternoon at PIC.
Kortan opened the scoring less than seven minutes in to give Section 1 an early lead they would only build upon. Also scoring for the Orange team was; Henri Ament (Shattuck-St. Mary’s), Case Peterson (Lakeville South), Gavin Katz (SSM) and Gavin Kor (SSM).
Michael Herman (Moorhead) scored White’s lone goal, which came late in the first half.
Section 1 improved its record to 2-0, and advances the the festival’s championship round Sunday, where they will face Section 6A/AA Sky Blue.
A hat trick from Caleb Pittsley (Edina) helped drive Section 6A/AA Sky Blue past section 4A/AA Red for 6-3 victory in the semifinal Saturday morning at PIC.
Other goals came from Nolan O’Connell (Wayzata), Lewis Majkozak (A-C) and Cole Cheeseman (Holy Angels). Majkozak added an assist to finish with two points.
Section 6 improved its record to 2-0 for the weekend, and advance to face Section 1A/AA (Orange) in Sunday’s festival championship game.
