Girls 16: Day 2 Recap

Game 1: Section 1 - 3; Section 2 - 5

Section 2 goalie Layla Hemp (Minnetonka) stood tall making 14 saves in the first half in what would end up being a 5-3 win over Section 1. S2 players Ruby Rauk (2 assists) and Kendra Distad (1 goal, 1 assist) both contributed 2 points in their team’s victory. Forward Ayla Puppe (Northfield) scored 2 of S1’s 3 goals in the second half.

Game 2: Section 4 - 2; Section 7 - 4

Samantha Pool (Forest Lake) scored on an empty net in the last 30 seconds to seal a Section 7 win over Section 4 by a score of 4-2. Only 1 goal was scored in the first half with both team’s goalies making key saves (S4’s Gabriella Casa De Calvo with 21 saves and S7’s Addison Hess with 10). Ilsa Lindaman scored the first 2 goals for Section 7. The 2 goal scorers for Section 4 were Addison Finn and Josie St. Martin, both from Stillwater.

Game 3: Section 5 - 4; Section 6 - 2

Section 5 built up a 2-0 lead in the first half and held on to beat Section 6 4-2 powered by solid performances from Zoe Lopez (1 goal, 2 assists) and goalie Elie Hancock, who made several breakaway saves. Both offenses were balanced with each team managing over 20 shots in the game. Section 5 will compete for the championship tomorrow at 4:15 while Section 6 will play for third place at noon.

Game 4: Section 3 - 3, Section 8 - 8

Both teams scored 2 goals in the first half but Section 8 poured it on in the second to win 8-3 over Section 3. Taylor Brueske (Moorhead) delivered 2 goals and 2 assists in the victory while Maggey Plante (East Grand Forks) and Ella Holm (Moorhead) both scored twice. Section 8 advances to the championship game tomorrow at 4:15 while Section 3 will play in the 3rd place game at noon.
