Girls 16: Day 1 Recap

Game 1: Section 5 (red) - 5, Section 2 (blue) - 2

After Section 5 scored two quick goals early in the first half, Section 2 responded with two of their own, both assisted by Kendra Distad (Minnetonka). Section 5’s Zoe Lopez (Orono) scored what would end up being the game-winning goal on the powerplay just before halftime. In the second half, Pimsiri Wilhelmy (Maple Grove) and Alexa Niccum (Orono) padded the lead for Section 5 to finish the game with a 5-2 win.

Game 2: Section 1 (yellow) - 2, Section 6 (green) - 6

Despite being outshot 15-9 in the first half, Section 6 pulled out a 6-2 win over Section 1 propelled by the strong goaltending of Demetra Walsma (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) and Kaydence Roeske (River Lakes). Both S6 forward Whitney Horton (Edina) and S1’s Sawyer Fleming scored 2 goals with one of Fleming’s coming short-handed. Bailey Gray of Section 6 added a goal and an assist.

Game 3: Section 3 (grey) - 2, Section 4 (light blue) - 0

Section 3 goalies Natalie Kendhammer (Rosemount) and Addison Oettinger (Burnsville) combined for a 26-save shoutout of Section 4. Addie Bowlby (Burnsville) and Makayla Moran (Apple Valley) were the goal scorers for S3, with both goals coming within 2 minutes of each other. While Section 4 had plenty of chances in the second half, no goals were scored.

Game 4: Section 7 (orange) - 1, Section 8 (white) - 5

Section 8 pulled away in the second half with 4 goals from 4 different players. Olivia Kortan (Moorhead) showed her passing prowess with 2 assists while Nora Sauer (Andover) scored the lone goal for Section 7. S8 goalies Morgan Dorn (Sartell-Sauk Rapids) and Ericah Folden (Brainerd-Little Falls) both made 15 saves in the game.
