Three teams from Minnesota are set to compete in USA Hockey’s High School National Championships starting this Thursday, April 15 and concluding with championship games on Monday, April 19 in Omaha, NE.

USA Hockey’s High School Nationals consist of three divisions: Girls, Division I (for single school team only) and Division II (for teams with players from multiple high schools). The three Minnesota teams will each be competing in a separate division.

Girls – Premier Prep Forest

Premier Prep Forest qualified for USA Hockey National Championships by winning the Minnesota Girls High School Coaches Association Premier Prep League Championship this past fall. Team Forest had a strong regular season, going 12-2-1 with a league leading 67 goals scored in 15 games to earn the second overall seed. In the playoffs, Team Forest beat Team Sky 2-1 in the semifinals and won the championship game in decisive fashion over Team White/Black.

Division I – Edina

Edina Junior Gold A should be considered one of the heavyweights in the Division I tournament. The Hornets have a strong track record, having advanced to the championship round every year they’ve participated in High School Nationals and finishing second in 2016 (lost to Wayzata Jr. Gold A) and 2019. Edina was one of the top Junior Gold A teams all year and finished in third place at the Junior Gold A State Tournament after losing to rival Minnetonka in the semifinals.

Division II – OMG

Fresh off winning the 2021 Minnesota Hockey Junior Gold A State Championship, Osseo-Maple Grove will make its first appearance at USA Hockey’s High School Nationals and will be the first Minnesota team to compete in Division II. Osseo-Maple Grove had a strong regular season in the Junior Gold High School League, finishing fourth with a 11-4-1 record, but the Saints have taken their game to a new level in the postseason, allowing only four total goals in five playoff games.
