HP14s split up for practice and learned about social media. Plus, games!

Derek Ricke, of Minnesota Hockey Marketing and Communication, presented to the HP14s on social media.

On Day 3 the HP14s split up by position group for their practices.

In the morning, the players had their second round of dryland training followed by practice. The forwards, in particular, worked on odd-man rushes and zone entries.

The players also heard from two speakers. Derek Ricke from Minnesota Hockey presented on athletes and social media use.

Ricke used example of popular high school hockey players to show how they are public figures, something the players could become in the future. He also talked about social media as a major opportunity to build your brand in a positive fashion.

Ricke stressed building good habits today, and watching out for the dangers of social media such as cyberbullying. He encouraged the players to take a, 'social media diet,' if necessary to avoid distractions. Finally, Ricke highlighted positives of social media and used Jason Zucker's Give16 campaign as an example.

Following dinner, the players heard from speakers as a large group. Coach Doug Schueller, St. John's University head coach, talked about adversity that the players may fave as they grow in the game. Coach Nick Oliver, an SCSU assistant, spoke as well.

Tomorrow will feature a 3-on-3 tournament for the teams in lieu of a full game.

Gold (5) vs. Sky Blue (4)

Owen Nesburg (Faribault) opened the scoring for Team Gold just over five minutes into the game. Austin Burnevik (Blaine) tied the game for Sky Blue a few minutes later. Gold retook the lead with 11:49 to play in the half on a goal by Joey Antonutti (Cloquet), but Sky Blue struck 19 seconds later via Easton Lammers (Moorhead) to tie the game 2-2. Blake Steenerson (Osseo-Maple Grove) made it 3-2 Gold, but Sky Blue held a 4-3 advantage at halftime thanks to goals by Matt Lomen (St. Michael-Albertville) and Colin Scanlan (St. Paul).

Tanner Zoinosky (Woodbury) leveled the game at 4-4 less than one minute into the second half. Finn Brink (Osseo-Maple Grove) scored the game-winning goal for Gold with 6:53 to play.

Gold outshot Sky Blue 49-44 in a fast-paced affair. All four goalies made at least 19 saves in the game, but only Gold's Lincoln Mellenthin (Marshall) posted a shutout as he made 19 saves in the second half.

Royal Blue (4) vs. Red (2)

Royal Blue won its third in a row in the final game Tuesday afternoon. Red took the first lead of the game with a goal from Drew Stewart (Minnetonka) with 10:13 to play in the first half. Royal Blue got on the scoreboard with 39 seconds remaining in the half with a goal from defenseman Caden Besemer (Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato).

Jayson Shaugabay (Warroad) gave Royal its first lead with 20:19 to play, and teammate Easton Swift (St. Paul) backed him up 15 seconds later for a 3-1 lead. Beckett Hendrickson (Minnetonka) scored with 10:59 to play to increase the lead to 4-1. Stewart scored his second goal of the game for Red with 9:08 to play, and Royal withstood a barrage of shots to hold on for the 4-2 win.

Red outshot Royal Blue 45-31 despite the loss, including a 28-19 edge in the second half. Royal goalie Carsen Musser (Fairmont) did well to stop 27 of 28 shots sent his way.

Team Red looks to start a 3-on-2 through the neutral zone against Royal Blue.

Standings & Breakdown

Royal Blue has taken control by winning all three of its games thus far. With the 3-on-3 games tomorrow there is only one more game to play for the HP14s.

Since this is not a true round-robin format, meaning Gold and Royal do not play, Royal has earned at least a share of first place. Royal can take first place outright with a tie or win against Team White.

Should Royal slip up and lose, Green and Gold go head-to-head with a chance to earn two points. In the case of Green, remember Royal has already defeated them 6-1 yesterday afternoon. In other words, Royal Blue is in a very good position to take the overall title. We'll see you Thursday morning for the final games!

Royal Blue 3-0-0 (6 points)
Green 2-1-0 (4 points)
Gold 1-0-2 (4 points)
Sky Blue 1-2-0 (2 points)
White 0-2-1 (1 point)
Red 0-2-1 (1 point)
