Game 1: Girls 17’s Red-3 16’s Blue-5

Did this game ever start off with a bang!  When the 16 teams play the 17 teams, expect tenacity, grit, and passion.  Both sides have something to prove and they usually leave every ounce of energy out on the ice.

Less than two minutes into the game, the red 17’s light up the scoreboard going up 1-0 over 16 blue on an excellent shot by Isabel Daniel (Blake) assisted by her two teammates, Carolina Bowlby (Edina) and Erin Olson (Lakeville North).  It took another solid ten minutes of play before the 16 blue’s went on the board on quite the shot by Mallory Uihlen (Edina) assisted by Anne Kuehl (Edina). The 16 blue’s would take the lead and end the half on a Grace Hillen (Holy Angels) pass to Adelaide Burton (Blake) who made it look just too easy.  Olivia King (Brainerd/Little Falls) saw 17 shots in the first half, and this girl was standing on her head today! She could do no wrong in net!

Five more goals were scored in the second half starting just 3 ½ minutes in on a shot from red team’s Grace Heiting from Gretchen Greeder and Clara Billings. Red 17’s scored again as Carolina Bowlby played well off a sweet pass from Taylor Heise to put red up 3-2.

But not to go away quietly, the blue 16 team wasn’t going to give up! Kaitlyn Kaufman on a feed from Adelaide Burton ties the game 3-3.

Unfortunately, the 16’s couldn’t hang on and the 17 red team put two more home to sew up the win. Madison Bizal and Mackenzie Rugland scored the final two goals less than a minute apart to solidify the 5-3 win.

Game 2: Girls 16’s Red-0 Girls 17’s White-3

Talk about leaving it all on the ice!  Both teams played their hearts out and again, the young 16 red goaltenders went above and beyond the call of duty!  Chloe Stockinger faced 21 shots by the older team while only letting two in, and Anna LaRose met all 11 only letting one escape her.

But today the 17 Red team had spectacular opportunities, two of which were solidly scored by Kenzie Hauswirth; one unassisted and the other assisted by Elizabeth Valley and the other slammed home by Sadie Peart from Eva Hendrickson.  As the white 17 team ended the first half, they were up 2-0 and never looked back!

Enter in the second half and Kenzie again showed off her mad skills by scoring the only goal of the half and leading her team to the 3-0 win.
