Game Summary Green Giants vs. Team Illinois 16U

The Green Giants started fast with several good scoring chances in the first period. Ben Murray #16 opened the scoring with a nice backhand beating the Team Illinois goaltender. They continued to carry the play in the first period and scored again a few minutes later with Jack Karges #17 taking a bounce off the wall and beating the Team Illinois goalie for a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.
Team Illinois came out much more physical to start the second period and it showed. They scored two goals in the first half of the second period with Quinn Hutson #92 scoring off of a nice shot and Tyler Hildebrandt #4 netting their second goal off of a turnover at the blue line. The game was tied 2-2 at the end of the second period.
The third period featured several goals and scoring chances by both teams. The Green Giants started the scoring with a quick shot on the power play by Michael Shoemaker #11. Team Illinois forward Colin Marks #7 came right back and scored after an attempted clearing attempt was held in at the blue line. Game was tied 3-3. Team Illinois then scored two consecutive goals to take a 5-3 lead with Colin Marks netting his second of the game. With about 90 seconds remaining the Green Giants pulled their goalie and pulled to within 5-4 with Henry Sweeney #24 scoring on a tipped shot from Mike Shoemaker. Team Illinois closed the scoring with an empty net goal making the final 6-4.
