Tier 1 District Playoffs This Weekend

The Minnesota Tier 1 District playoffs for berths in the USA Hockey National Championships in April will kick off this weekend with semifinal action at the Plymouth Ice Center in Plymouth, Minn.

MN District Tier 1 Playoffs This Weekend

The Minnesota Tier 1 District playoffs for berths in the USA Hockey National Championships in April will kick off this weekend with semifinal action at the Plymouth Ice Center in Plymouth, Minn. The Tier 1 semifinals and championship games in the 14U Youth, 14U Girls and 15 Youth classifications have been set following the conclusion of the regular season this past weekend. The champions at the 14U Youth level will advance to the National Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa. April 3 – 8, 2019. The champions at the 14U Girls level will move on to the National Tournament in Irvine, Calif., April 4 – 8, 2019. The champions at the 15 Only Youth level will go on to the National Tournament in Plymouth, Mich., April 3 – 8. The Minnesota District semifinal games will kick off Saturday at 11:15 a.m.

All nine games will be streamed live by Under The Lights Media, and will be hosted on www.minnesotahockey.org. The live streams will be free to the public.

Youth 14U – The 14U Youth semifinals will feature the top three teams in the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Tier 1 Fall League standings as well as Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep School. The regular season champion via head-to-head tiebreaker Walleye (District 3), who finished with an 11-2-2 record will face off against the Moose (District 8), who posted an 8-3-4 mark. The Lakers (District 6), who also posted an 11-2-2 record will draw Shattuck in the first game. The Walleye/Moose matchup starts at 1:45 p.m. on Rink A. The Lakers/Shattuck opens at 1:30 p.m. on Rink C.  

Girls 14U – The 14U Girls semifinals will include last year’s USA Hockey national champion Green Giants (District 10) as the number one seed with a 15-0-0 record. The Green Giants will draw the fourth seeded Polars (District 5) in the semifinals. In the other semifinal matchup, the Lakers (District 6) will match up with the Walleye (District 3). The Green Giants/Polars game kicks off at 11:30 a.m. on Rink A. The Lakers/Walleye will start at 11:15 a.m. on Rink C.

Youth 15 – The 15 Only Youth semifinals will also include three teams from the Tier 1 Fall League as well as Shattuck St. Mary’s. The Green Giants (District 10) earned the top seed by posting a 13-2-0 record and winning a head-to-head tie breaker. They will face the Walleye (District 3) in the opener. The defending Minnesota District champion Blue Ox (Districts 11, 12, 15 & 16) will meet Shattuck in the other semifinal. The Green Giants/Walleye game starts at 4:00 p.m. on Rink A. The Blue Ox/Shattuck game starts at 3:45 p.m. on Rink C.

Minnesota Hockey will also host District playoffs at the Girls 16U and Girls 19U levels on October 23 at the Schwan Super Rink. The Youth 16U Playoffs will also take place at the Super Rink, November 6. The Youth 18U Playoffs will take place on October 21 in Fargo, N.D. as part of the Elite League schedule.
