Vadnais Sports Center and TRIA Rink welcomed the Girls 14U Tier I League for week 4 of fall action. The Lakers, Green Giants and Team Wisconsin went undefeated through the weekend. The Lakers and Green Giants remain atop the standings, the Green Giants in first place with 24 points (12-0), the Lakers in second with 18 points (9-3).

 

Green Giants forwards Isabelle Goettl (Andover) and Danielle Burgen (Lindstrom) each had two goals in two team wins. Goettl finished the weekend with eight points (five goals, three assists) through three games.

 

The Green Giants opened up the weekend battles with a 9-1 win over North Dakota, whose goaltenders Madison Bjone and Kendra Nordick combined for 31 saves.

 

On Saturday the Lakers earned win No. 1 of the weekend with an 8-1 victory against. Team Wisconsin topped the Moose 7-2 while the Polars downed the Loons 5-0. The Green Giants soared to an 11-0 shutout win against the Voyageurs, and the Lakers held on for a 4-2 win over the Walleye, courtesy of four tallies in the opening period. The Blue Ox edged North Dakota 2-1 behind some brilliant goaltending by Amilla Messer (Belle Plaine) who stopped 20 of 21 shots faced. Wisconsin and the Polars held a matinee special, with an exhilarating game that saw back-in-forth action including two goals for Team Wisconsin in the final 1:30 to end the contest in a 6-6 tie. The Walleye defeated the Moose 7-1 while the Green Giants topped the Blue Ox 8-1. The Voyageurs capped off Saturday night play with a 3-1 victory.

 

Sunday’s final games had Wisconsin surge to a 8-2 win against the Voyageurs and the Moose and Blue Ox skate to a 1-1 tie. The Lakers continued dominance with a 5-0 win over the Polars.

 

Standing out for the undefeated Lakers this weekend was Samantha Broz (Bloomington) who had seven points (three goals, four assists), and Katelyn Roberts (Chanhassen) who had six points (four goals, two assists).

 

The Walleye beat the Loons 4-1 in the final game of the weekend.
