TRIA Training Camp Kicks Off Tier I Leagues at TRIA Rink This Weekend

St. Paul, MN – August 9, 2018 – The 2018 CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Tier I Leagues will begin this weekend with the first-ever TRIA Training Camp at TRIA Rink in St. Paul, August 10-12. League rosters, jerseys and schedules have now been unveiled with several enhancements from last year’s season. Along with CCM, TRIA Orthopaedic will be the presenting partner of the League and will be providing participants off-ice training tips throughout the season.

The Girls 14U League has expanded to eight teams with the addition of the District 5 Polars and Districts 11 & 12 Voyageurs. The Youth 14U League will once again have eight teams, and the Youth 15 League will remain at seven teams. The CCM High Performance Girls 15* Fall League will once again be made up of four teams, which will not be classified as Tier I teams, but will play a nine-game schedule. Team North Dakota and Team Wisconsin will also compete during various weekends, as will the New Jersey Hitmen, Sioux Falls Stampede and Team Illinois.

In partnership with TRIA, the Tier I Training Camp will take place August 10-12 at the TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center. The training camp will offer participants an on-ice and off-ice training experience complete with dryland training, skill work, video sessions, Fusionetics movement screening/education and TRIA Concussion Program and baseline ImPACT testing events.

This Fall will be the fourth season of Tier I hockey in Minnesota, and the third featuring the 14 and 15 levels. New this season, the Prep Development League will officially become the CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Youth Tier I 16U League. The Youth 16U League will feature six teams, formed along similar geographic boundaries to the Youth 14U and 15 Leagues. The teams in the 19U Girls, 18U Youth and 16U Girls age groups will continue to come from the Upper Midwest High School Elite Leagues. The Tier 1 Leagues are designed to provide the top players in Minnesota with the opportunity to train with and compete against each other.

“To say last season was a success would be an understatement so I couldn’t be more excited about kicking off the 2018 season of Minnesota Hockey’s Tier I Leagues,” said CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance director, Mike MacMillan. “Not only do the Leagues continue to provide great a mix of local competition and outstanding development, but as the Green Giant Girls 14U showed winning the Tier I National Championship in just their second year, the Leagues also feature many of the state’s and country’s best players. This season we have added a preseason training camp to further emphasize player development and are launching several enhancements to the Youth 16U League.”

Following the regular season, which concludes September 30 for the 14/15 levels and October 14 for 16U, the top teams in each League will have the opportunity to compete for a chance to represent Minnesota at the 2019 USA Hockey National Championships.

Last year, two teams from the CCM High Performance Tier I Leagues represented Minnesota at the 2018 USA Hockey Tier I National Championships. The Blue Ox of Districts 11, 12, 15 & 16 competed at the Youth 15 level in Plymouth, Michigan. The Green Giants of District 10 traveled to Marlborough, Massachusetts where they claimed the Girls Tier I 14U National Championship, becoming the first League team to win a national title.
