The 14’s day commenced in similar fashion as Monday, with a morning practice and dry land work before lunch. However, today the forwards split up into two different sessions for individualized drill work while the defensemen were their own group as well.

Elliot Vesper tells us how he’s developing the defensemen in their 3 whistle drill this morning.
1. Identify and engage the attacker.
2. Engage in the 1 on 1 battle & contain properly.
3. Stay underneath & stay D side to avoid losing body position. #14BoysCamp // #CCMHP // #ADM. pic.twitter.com/h0wjFi58lU

Following the morning sessions, the 14’s were in for a treat when the Manager of Communications and Marketing for Minnesota Hockey, Derek Ricke, gave a presentation on athletes and social media usage. Ricke went into detail about how players, teams and companies are able to positively brand themselves through proper and effective use of social media platforms. Ricke also touched on the harmful effects an old tweet, picture, video or screenshot can have on a player’s ability to be recruited and recognized in the public eye. The “3-20 rule” was shared with the 14’s when they are deciding on whether or not to post content on social media. The rule is that before posting, take twenty seconds to think if your grandmother would approve of the post, twenty seconds to think if your coach or athletic director would approve, and if your future boss would approve. If the post would acquire all three approvals, then your chances of posting something harmful on social media will decrease.

After the three games and dinner, the 14’s had the chance to listen to head St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey Coach, Brett Larson speak about how he developed personally as a hockey player in the Minnesota HP program, as well as how he tries to develop his players that compete at the NCAA Division I level. Larson gave the players two key pieces of advice when he said to, “Enjoy the process and be the player that got you here… Play your own game.” Larson also alluded to the fact that hockey players are leaders on and off the ice. “The opportunity to play at every single D! hockey program in the nation starts off the ice, both in the classroom and deciding what type of man you want to be… We are looking for great hockey players with even greater character.” Larson has been apart of two NCAA National Championship teams with the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs as an assistant coach. The 2018-19 season will mark his first season as the head coach of the St. Cloud State Huskies.
