Girls 15 Camp Day 6: Camp Closes with Fiery Finals

GOLD AND SKY FIGHT TO A 1-1 DRAW IN TOP GAME, SKY earns BEST RECORD AT 4-0-2

Development camp wrapped up with an intense final in the top game Thursday morning at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, as Sky Blue fought its way to a 1-1 tie with gold, and earn its spot as the team with the best record at 4-0-2.

Scoreless after the first half, the teams exchanged goals in the second to finish tied at 1-1. There are no overtime periods at development camp.

Mikayla Kelley (Eastview) scored Gold’s goal on the power play with 13:18 left, with assists going to Taylor Otremba (Lakeville South) and Madelyn Jurgensen (Andover). 

It took nearly 10 minutes before Sky would level the score, but it came with 4:53 left when Sadie Long (Holy Family) would score unassisted, her fifth goal of the week. 

Long finished tied with Kelley for most goals of the camp. 

Sky continued its hot goaltending as Molly Haag (Burnsville) stopped all eight shots she faced in the first half, and Isabel Varner (Buffalo) allowed one goal on nine shots. Sky allowed just five goals for the week, with two shutouts. 

Gold goaltending duty was split between Alexandra Pellicci (Holy Family) and Jori Jones (Roseville). Jones started game and stopped 11 of 11 in the first half, with Pellicci playing the second. Pellicci made seven saves on eight shots.

Goaltending reigns as Red and Green skate to a 1-1 tie

Green and Red traded goals in the first half before goaltending set the tone in the second en route to a 2-2 tie Thursday morning. 

Red's Kendra Emery (East Grand Forks) opened the scoring 8:43 into the game, then Green answered with scores by Cora Coz (Elk River) and Halle Fields (Andover) as Green rolled a narrow lead late into the half.

With 1:26 before the break, Kylie Roberts (Edina) scored the equalizer on a feed from Sydney Hunst (Owatonna).

In net, Emma Kelnken (Marshall) stopped 10 of 10 shots in the second half, while her counterpart Skylar Vetter (Lakeville Bantam AA) stopped all 13 shots she faced as the two kept scoring off the books in the second half.

Royal Blue scores three in second half to top White, 3-2

It would prove to be the only decisive result of the day as Royal Blue fought back from a two-goal halftime deficit and rally in the second to come out with a 3-2 victory Thursday morning.

Liberty Fettig (Lakeville South) got Royal started a little more than five minutes into the second half, and it sparked another quick goal from Sydney Schuster (Stillwater) a little more than a minute later.

With 10:28 left, Brynn Swenson (Eastview) scored the eventual game-winner on a pass from Gabby Krause (Andover), marking Krause's second straight assist.

White goals came in the first half from Jenna Lawry (Chisago Lakes) and Kailey Niccum (Mound Westonka).

Abigail Thompson (Mounds View) stopped 10 of 10 shots in the second half to preserve the lead for Royal.
