High Performance 15 Summer Development Camp is underway...

Three competitive games put the finishing touches on opening day as the CCM Girls High Performance 15 Development Camp is underway at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

Starting things off on the main rink, Sky Blue raced out with four first half goals and then held on through a contentious second half to pick up a 4-0 win over Royal Blue.

Hanna Baskin (Minnetonka) opened the scoring less than three minutes into action to set the tone before Sky Blue would add three more late in the period. Taylor Otremba (Lakeville South) scored on an assist from Olivia Haag midway through the period before Haag (Benilde-St. Margaret’s) netted the team’s third score with 3:51 left in the half.

A short time later, Grace Kuipers (Eden Prairie) knocked home the team’s fourth and final goal, assisted by Iona Welsch (Lakeville South).

In net for Sky Blue, Isabel Varner (Buffalo) made 12 saves, and Molly Haag (Burnsville) stopped all five shots she faced as the two combined for the shutout between the pipes.

In goal at the other end, Abigail Thompson (Mounds View) allowed four goals on 16 shots in the first half, before Hannah Skavnek (Rogers) took over in the second half and turned away all 15 shots she faced.

Simultaneously on the practice rink, Red scored twice in the second half to turn around a one-goal deficit and defeat Green 2-1.

All three scores in the game came from an Andover skater as Peyton Hemp, Tyra Turner and Madison Clough all made their marks.

Hemp scored the first period’s only goal seven minutes in before Red revved up in the second half. Turner’s equalizer goal came unassisted less than five minutes into the second before Clough scored the eventual game-winner with 7:26 left.

Goalies on both sides stood firm between the pipes in their opening action. For Red, Annabelle Langton (Elk River) stopped nine of 10 shots in the first half before teammate Emma Kelnken (Marshall) put a lid on things in the second half and turned aside all nine shots she faced.

For Green, Skylar Vetter (Lakeville Bantam AA) stopped five of five shots in the first half, and HalleeAnn Bailey (Alexandria) made six saves on seven shots in the second.

In the final game of the day, White and Gold skated to a 2-2 tie.

Gold jumped out to a 2-1 lead after a first half in which they outshot White 15-5, but things would tighten up in the second half as White pulled even.

Sadie Long (Holy Family) scored twice in the span of less than a minute early in the first half as Gold looked to be racing out front.

But White settled in, and a goal by Kailey Niccum (Mound Westonka) with 9:32 left before the break raised the stakes.

In the second half, Gretchen Branton (Wayzata) scored on a rush following a takeaway in the neutral zone, settling the score at 2-2.

In goal for Gold, both Alexandra Pellicci (Holy Family) and Jori Jones (Roseville) allowed one goal each during their half of play. For White, Maria Widen (Burnsville) stopped 8-of-10 in the first half, and Brook Cassibo (Maple Grove) made 13 saves on 13 shots in the second half.
