Boys HP 15: Day 3 Recap

District 15 – 5, District 4 – 2

After jumping out to a 4-2 lead in the first half, District 15 rolled to a 5-2 win over District 4. Scholle Sullivan (Chaska/Chanhassen) got things going for District 4 just 35 seconds into the game. From there, District 15 would score five out of the final six goals. That started with Isaac Young (Fergus Falls), who scored at the 12:18 mark of the first half. District 15 continued to build its lead thanks to a pair of goals of Nicholas Stevens (Little Falls) and a tally from Josiah Gronholz (Alexandria). Neither team would score in the second half until Gronholz picked up his second of the game with 41 seconds remaining. District 4 was held to just a pair of goals thanks to District 15 goaltenders Adler Hoagland (Northern Lakes) and Evan Myran (Moorhead). They combined for 20 saves in a winning effort. Joseph Gag (New Ulm/Sleepy Eye) and Hobie Hedquist (Sioux Falls Stampede) stopped 26 shots for District 4.

District 8 – 11, District 16 – 3

District 8 finished off its weekend in a big way with a 10-goal second half to knock off District 16. Paul Huglen (Roseau) was responsible for District 16’s first two goals of the game and gave his team a 2-1 lead entering the half. Zach Bade (Rosemount) had the lone first-half goal for District 8. In the second half, the goals came quickly for District 8. The team tallied four goals in the first four minutes in the half, including a pair from Griffin Ludtke (Lakeville South). The offensive onslaught for District 8 continued later into the half as eight players lit the lamp in the half. Bennett Schimek (Gentry Academy) as he tallied the final goal of the game and his second of the half. District 8 finished strong thanks to the play of goaltenders Matt Syverson (Holy Angels) and Tyler McCarville (Hastings), who stopped 15 shots in the win. District 16 goaltenders Wyatt Olsonawski (Kittson County) and Jack Orchard (Warroad) were tested in this one and stopped 41 shots in their final game of the weekend.

District 9 – 3, District 12 – 3

These two teams played to a draw on Sunday in a back-and-forth, entertaining game. District 12 got off to a blazing start as Hunter Bischoff (Grand Rapids) tallied a pair of goals to give his team a 2-0 lead in the first 8:48 of the contest. Later in the half, District 9 would find a pair of goals as Logan Barr (Albert Lea) and Brody Lamb (Dodge County) evened the score. In the second half, District 9 found the lead for a brief time as Blake Ulve (Albert Lea) tallied his second goal of the tournament. Minutes later, however, Jack Peart (Grand Rapids) tied the game once again for District 12. District 9 earned the tie behind goaltenders Riley Madsen (Mankato East) and Payton Mancuso (Winona) combined for 22 saves while Max Marcotte and Mitchell Nemec, who each hail from International Falls, made 25 saves.

District 2 – 7, District 5 – 2

A hat trick from Keegan O’Brien (Stillwater) paved the way for District 2 to pick up a win in its final game of the weekend. Henry Lawrence (Stillwater) kicked off the scoring in both halves as he scored a pair for District 2. O’Brien would tally two of his goals in the first half before earning the hat trick 1:35 into the second half. Two other players — Nathan Hardy (Hill-Murray) and Evan Murr (Stillwater) — would also add to the District 2 lead. District 5 did not get onto the board until late when Elbridge Dekraai (Willmar) got his team on the board. Later in the half, Nolan Widman (Sauk Rapids) finished off his weekend with a breakaway goal for District 5. Jack Cashin (Gentry Academy) and Croix Kochendorfer (St. Paul Capitals) picked up the win while stopping 15 shots. Travis Olson (Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato) and Quentin Sigurdson (Sioux Falls) made 31 saves for District 5.

District 6 – 6, District 10 – 3

After District 6 jumped ahead in the opening half, these two teams traded blows in the second half before District 6 came out on top. District 6 scored twice within the first three minutes to grab a commanding 2-0 lead as Jackson Borst (Edina) and Trey Fechko (Holy Family) each lit the lamp. Carson Wadel (Andover) would get one back for District 10 before Jacob McPartland (Holy Family) and Fechko made it 4-1 going into the intermission. District 10 made a furious rally to open the second half as Tanner Brouwer (St. Thomas Academy) and Blake Johnson (Elk River) made it a 4-3 game early in the final 24 minutes. The two teams traded quality chances for the rest of the half until Borst broke through late in the second half to give District 6 some insurance as he scored with 5:47 remaining and tallied an empty-net goal with 1:04 left. Jack Stark (Chaska/Chanhassen) and Trevor Boschee (Prior Lake) made 33 saves for District 6. Meanwhile, Spencer White (St. Francis) and William Larson (Totino-Grace) stopped 29 shots for District 10.

District 3 – 7, District 11 – 1

Our final game of the weekend was a showcase of the scoring talent on District 3 as the team rolled to a 7-1 win. District 3 made it look easy in the opening half with five goals, including two from Brandon Reller (Maple Grove). Judd Ginther (Armstrong/Cooper), Cal Thomas (Maple Grove) and Dylan Lewis (Wayzata) tallied the other first-half goals. In the second half, Andrew Streeter (Wayzata) and Adam Marshall (Wayzata) added to the District 3 lead. Will Olson (Two Harbors) got the lone goal for District 11 at the 13:49 mark of the second half. The rest of District 11 was held off the scoreboard by District 3 goaltenders Grayson Wong (Wayzata) and Jack Wieneke (Maple Grove), who made 17 saves in the victory. David Rutka (Hermantown) and Jacob Walsh (Cloquet) combined for 19 stops for District 11.
