Girls Final 54: Day 2 Recap

GIRLS 17 RED - 3, GIRLS 16 BLUE - 2

Girls 16 Blue came out with a lot of fire and controlled play early. Olivia Mobley (Breck) jump started Girls 17 Red midway through the period, as she took a pass from Lily Deliadenis (Blake) in the neutral zone, accelerated past the defense and beat the goalie to make it 1-0. Red came out stronger in the second half, applying pressure early and it paid off as Brieja Parent (Forest Lake) expanded their lead to 2-0.  ____ and Shelby Brieland (Thief River Falls) got Blue back with in one, but Delianedis responded by winning a battle in front and burying a second rebound from her knees to make it 3-1. Sara Aadalen pulled 16 Blue within one goal with 2:10 remaining, but 17 Red locked it down after than to earn the 3-2 win.

GIRLS 17 White - 2, GIRLS 16 Red - 1

The middle game of the day proved to be a classic goaltender's duel as the four goalies combined to save 56 of 59 shots over the course of the game. Abelaide Burton (Blake) gave 17 White a 1-0 lead in the first half by burying a loose puck in front of the net. Two minutes later Gabrielle Rud (St. Cloud) expanded that lead to 2-0 on a goal that proved to be the game winner. 16 Red made a strong push in the second half, especially in the later part of the period. A goal by Allison Pitlick (Centennial) pulled them within one, but Ellie Strittmater (Edina) came up big for 17 White down the stretch, stopping a breakaway opportunity with eight minutes left and making a big glove save on a rebound in the final minute to hold on for the 2-1 win.

GIRLS 16 white - 4, GIRLS 17 Blue - 4

The last game of the Final 54 Festival proved to be worth the wait as it featured great back and forth battle featuring good plays and goaltending by both sides. 16 White jumped out to a 1-0 on an end-to-end rush by Jada Habisch (Buffalo). 17 Blue responded with two goals in less than a minute by Sophie Schuster (Stillwater) and Sydney Shearen (White Bear Lake). Later in the first half, Sydney Langseth (Eden Praire) evened the score for 16 White, but 17 Blue edged out a slight 3-2 lead heading into the intermission on a blast from the point by Madison Davis (Mankato East). 16 White came out of the locker room on a mission and got goals by Langseth and Mackenzie Bourgerie (North Wright County) in quick succession to earn their second lead of the game. Jenna Hartung came through late in the game though with her third goal of the festival on a net front scramble to help 17 Blue earn the 4-4 tie.
