2018 Girls NIT: Day 1 Recap

Minnesota U18 - 11, NORTH DAKOTA - 1


Kelsey King (Elk River) broke the game open at the 10-minute mark, scoring past North Dakota netminder Brooklyn Myrvik (West Fargo United). Myrvik weathered a storm of shots in the first period, but was foiled by  Becca Kniss (Eden Prairie) and Brooke Walters (Sartell) who scored late in the opening period.  Hill-Murray's Joslynn Olson and Haylee Blinkhorn netted goals in the second period before a third-period scoring flurry by the Minnesota 18s.

King scored her second goal of the game in the final period, then tallied assists on Sadie Peart (Grand Rapids) and Walters' second of the game.  Dessa Flom (Minot) scored North Dakota's lone goal with an assisted awarded to Madison Schoenberg (West Fargo United). Myrvik finished the game with 45 saves.

MINNESOTA SENIORS - 17, NORTHERN MIDWEST - 0


Samantha Burke (St. Paul United) netted the game's opening goal four minutes in. Claire Butorac (Andover) scored off a feed from Paetyn Levis (Rogers) scored three minutes later and found their stride as the duo tallied three points in the game. Levis assisted an Olivia Williams Ridge (St. Paul United) goal and capped the first period with one of her own, assisted by Margaret Flaherty (Lakeville North). 

Flaherty took over in the final period, scoring twice and adding assists on Taylor Heise (Red Wing) and Katherine Huntington (Prior Lake)'s goals. Levis scored with two seconds remaining to notch a hat trick.

Calla Frank (White Bear Lake) stopped 34 shots, while Bailey Gray (Downriver Otters Boys) made 39 saves for Northern Midwest.
