The top four women’s hockey teams in the nation will battle for this year’s national title when the NCAA Women’s Frozen Four returns to Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, MN this weekend. Two semifinal games are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday with the national championship to follow at 2 p.m. Sunday.

“It’s a real honor to host the Frozen Four on our campus,” University of Minnesota head coach Brad Frost said. “I think it speaks to the importance of women’s hockey in the state of Minnesota, but also to the venue of Ridder Arena. It’s such a great place to host a big time event. It’s an incredible facility, in particular for women’s hockey. In 2013 and 2015, the last two times we hosted, it was sold out, there were scalpers on the street, and it was an incredible experience for all participating teams, as well as for the fans.”

The importance of hockey in Minnesota shows, not only on the collegiate stage, but in the Olympics as well.  Seven of the 23 women on the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team are Minnesota natives.  In fact, many of the women on the Olympic team competed in the Frozen Four.

“A lot of the players on the U.S. Olympic Team who just won gold were really little when the last gold medal happened in 1998. That inspired them to continue on in the game of hockey and now, hopefully they are inspiring other little girls to play hockey and to try and reach their dreams,” Frost said.

The 2018 Women’s Frozen Four field includes Clarkson, Wisconsin, Colgate, and Ohio State.

All-session and single-session ticket packages are available from $15 to $40, as well as group experience packages.  Tickets may be purchased online at MyGopherSports.com, in person at 3M Arena at Mariucci Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-U-GOPHER.
