Minnesota Wild to Host Women's Hockey Clinic

By Minnesota Hockey, 11/14/16, 2:45PM CST

The Minnesota Wild, in partnership with Schwan's™ Home Delivery, Minnesota Hockey and the Minnesota Whitecaps, will be hosting a women’s hockey clinic on Sunday, December 18 at Xcel Energy Center. The clinic will serve as the final event during the Minnesota Wild’s inaugural Girls Hockey Weekend which is designed to celebrate and promote the growing tradition of girls’ and women’s hockey in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Whitecaps, which was the first and is still the only professional women’s hockey team to call Minnesota home, will assist Minnesota Hockey in providing instruction at the women’s clinic.

“The Minnesota Whitecaps are excited to be a part of the first Girls Hockey Weekend at the Xcel Energy Center in December,” said Laura Halldorson of the Minnesota Whitecaps. “The state of Minnesota has become a leader in girls and women’s hockey over the years, and it is an honor for us to partner with the Minnesota Wild as they recognize and promote our sport with this special weekend of activities.”

Halldorson was the inaugural coach for the University of Minnesota Women’s Hockey team, where she guided the team to three NCAA National Championships and was a three-time National Coach of the Year over 11 seasons. Now with the Minnesota Whitecaps, Halldorson will play a key role in this weekend of girls’ hockey celebration and development.

“This clinic will be a great opportunity for women’s hockey players, whether they’re just starting out or have been playing for years,” said Gina Wright, president of the Women’s Hockey Association of Minnesota (WHAM).  “These women will have the unique chance to learn from some of the most knowledgeable and respected women’s players and coaches in Minnesota, as well as interacting with the Minnesota Wild organization. It’s going to be a world class event, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to participate.”

Each registrant will receive a jersey for participating and can partake in a post-clinic Freschetta® Pizza party. The session is open to women ages 19 and over of all abilities, including beginners are invited to take part in the clinic.

“We’re excited to see how many WHAM members participate and hope to see the event draw new players to try the sport as well,” said Wright.

Minnesota Hockey coaches will be on the ice to group players by ability to ensure all players are able to experience a fun environment with just the right amount of challenge and competition.
