Metro West 16U

Metro West 16U continued its string of consecutive great starts in both its games this weekend but ended up losing the first 4-2 and tied the second 6-6.   The first game against Metro North 18U started physical but Metro West 16U weathered the storm going up 1-0 with a nice give and go goal by Orono forwards Preston Perreault, assisted by Fisher Eiss.  Metro West 16U’s four defensemen played very strong and both goalies were stellar, stopping several quality chances.  Metro North 18U finally broke through moving ahead 3-1 before Armstrong’s Riley Enderle pulled Metro West 16U within one at 3-2 with just over 8 minutes to play.  Metro West 16U had a few chances before Metro North 18U added an empty net goal to conclude a hard fought 4-2 game.

Metro West 16U had another strong start in game two vs. Metro Northwest 18U going up 4-2 led by Chanhassen’s Jack Haley who chipped in a goal & added two assists, Edina’s Tyler Sweeney with two goals, Chanhassen’s Shane Flaherty with a goal, and strong goal tending by Collin Dorzinski from New Prague.   In the second half of the game, Metro Northwest 18U surged ahead to 6-4 with the help of three power play goals.   Metro West 16U didn’t give up, with Holy Family’s John Simon scoring to make it 6-5 (assisted by Benilde’s Alex Webert and Eiss) and a nice break-away goal by Riley Enderle to tie it up late in the game (assisted by Evan Proudfit of Holy Family).

The team is looking forward to its next two games in St. Cloud next weekend vs. Metro SE 16U and South Dakota 16U.

Metro Southeast 16U

It was a tough weekend for the Fighting Camels of Metro Southeast 16U going 0-2-1 on the weekend.  Goal scoring was tough to come by in all 3 games.  They started Saturday with a tough 3-1 loss that included an empty net goal against them.  Saturday afternoon they played a tight game, and led 2-1 midway through the third before eventually falling 5-2. A bright spot in the loss Saturday afternoon was Johnny DuPont's 2 goals.  In a rematch with Metro Southwest 16U Sunday morning, they played to a 2-2 tie.  Both goalies played exceptionally well splitting time over the weekend, and with a shortened bench they were kept plenty busy.  Ben Beattie & Zack Kohler split time in all 3 games, and both goalies did all they could to keep the Camels in each game.
