CCM HP Girls NIT: Day 1

Game 1: Minnesota HP 18: 11, Michigan:0

Minnesota HP 18 beat Michigan 11-0 in the opening game of the 2016 CCM HP Girls NIT Thursday night at Braemar Arena.  Madison Gaffney got the game's first goal 3 minutes in, and was soon followed by goals from Paige Beebe (2) and Taylor Wemple for a 4-0 lead after 1.  Minnesota continued to attack Michigan's goal with shots in the 2nd and scored another 4 goals.  Lauren Boettcher and Abigail Riskevich each had 2 Assists to help add to the lead. Minnesota added three more goals in the third for an 11-0 opening win. Michigan goaltender Olivia Portillo made 60 saves on the night. 

Game 2: Minnesota Seniors: 2, North Dakota 1

The Minnesota Seniors held off a late charge from North Dakota to win 2-1 in game 2 of the Girls NIT.  Minnesota Seniors scored first as Sophia Poinar found the back of the net 13 minutes into the 1st period. Minnesota Seniors added to the lead to make it 2-0 just over 4 minutes into the 2nd period when Carly Bullock scored unassisted.  North Dakota answered right back scoring 13 seconds later to make it 2-1.  Calli Forsberg scored on a nice setup from line mates Kaitlyn Page and Graysen Myers. North Dakota was able to keep Minnesota Seniors off the score board for the remainder of the game, but could not find the game tying goal on a late charge with the goalie pulled in the final minute. North Dakota goaltender Kennedy Blair made 55 saves.
