The inaugural CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Boys’ and Girls’ 14 Spring Festival will be held this weekend at the Heritage Sports Center and Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth, MN.  The HP 14 festivals will feature the best boys and girls hockey players born in 2002 from across the state.

The Boys’ and Girls’ HP 14 spring programs were added this year to provide the top 14 year olds in Minnesota with an opportunity to train with and against the best players in the state. Each Minnesota Hockey district hosted tryouts in March to select the top players from their area. Then, the district hosted a series of local training sessions to provide players with an opportunity to focus on learning and developing certain skills.

“The HP 14 program continues our tradition of providing hockey players in Minnesota with the opportunity to develop with and against the best players in the state,” said High Performance Director Mike MacMillan. “Not to mention, it will provide these players with a great way to prepare for future HP programs, and make an early impression on coaches and scouts.”

This weekend the district teams will finish the program with a round robin festival. The event will consist of 10 girls’ teams and 12 boys’ teams from throughout Minnesota.  Each team will compete in three games.

“You really couldn’t draw this program up any better from a long term development perspective,” said Rochester native and Regional ADM Manager for USA Hockey, Guy Gosselin. “The main focus is on skill development through local training sessions.  Then, you give those players a chance to implement those skills in a game setting against high end competition, while maintaining an emphasis on development not immediate results.”

The CCM Minnesota Hockey High Performance Programs are a prestigious series of tryouts, camps, and festivals that provide the top players from each district or section a chance to play with and against the best players in the state.  These programs are conducted in conjunction with USA Hockey and are referred to as “Select” programs in other parts of the country.
