SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Wild, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) and Minnesota Hockey have announced the details for “Skate for State Night” on Thursday, March 24, when the Wild hosts the Calgary Flames at 7 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center. “Skate for State” is an initiative designed to recognize and honor all of the youth hockey state champions in Minnesota and includes a social media photo sweepstakes and exhibit at Xcel Energy Center.

All 2016 state championship teams in the Youth, Girls and Junior Gold levels (listed below) will be honored at the Wild game on Thursday, March 24. Select members of each team will be on the ice to be recognized during the first intermission. The first 5,000 fans ages 18 and under in attendance will receive a mini hockey stick, courtesy of Blue Cross.

Throughout the season, fans were encouraged to submit their Minnesota hockey-inspired photo using the hashtag #SkateForState on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. Forty winners were randomly selected to receive two suite tickets each to the March 24th game as part of the #SkateforState photo sweepstakes.

The “Skate for State” exhibit is on display near sections 106 and 107 at Xcel Energy Center throughout the hockey season. The display honors the Minnesota Hockey youth state champions and former Wild players who played in a Minnesota Hockey Youth State Tournament.

Minnesota Wild Chief Operating Officer Matt Majka said, “It is very satisfying for all of us in the community to see how hard work and dedication pays off for these young hockey players. This night is a great opportunity to celebrate their success. We’d like to thank Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota for this fantastic partnership.”

“It’s an honor for Blue Cross to celebrate youth hockey champions for three years running through the ‘Skate for State’ sponsorship,” said David Corkum, senior vice president of commercial markets for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. “These youth athletes show great commitment to their teams and the sport of hockey. Their dedication and achievements deserve recognition and praise.”

“The Minnesota Wild has a long history of being an amazing supporter of hockey at the youth level in Minnesota,” said Minnesota Hockey Executive Director Glen Andresen. “Their hosting of Skate for State Night and recognizing the hard work of our state champions takes that support to another level. We are so thankful to the Wild and to Blue Cross and Blue Shield for their support of youth and amateur hockey in the state.”
