This season has not been short on hockey highlights or storylines. Here are our top 10 plays by Minnesotans in 2015-16 so far.

“That’s Not Allowed, Joe – That’s Unbelievable”

Just take a look at this head-fake from T.J. Oshie. Actually it’s more like full-body fake. The shootout master does it again. Must be from all that time unstructured ice time in Warroad.

Carter Takes It Outside

It must have been an amazing experience to play for more than 50,000 people in the Stadium Series game. It must have been even more special for Minnesota native Ryan Carter to score at TCF Bank Stadium. The White Bear Lake native goes to the net, stick down, head up, and nicely redirects Scandella’s shot-pass toward the goaltender. But he doesn’t fly by the net. He sticks with the play, collects the rebound and buries it to give the Wild a 4-0 lead. WATCH

“That’s Hockey, Baby”

South St. Paul’s Justin Faulk buries a tic-tac-toe power-play goal for the Hurricanes. He gets nice and low to the ice, opens himself up for the pass and lowers his bottom hand on the stick to make sure this puck goes in. WATCH

Presley Has Left the Building

Minnetonka High School senior Presley Norby unveils an absolutely disgusting spin-o-rama to beat the opposing defenseman, and then roofs one past the goaltender from a very tight angle. Folks, this is your 2016 Ms. Hockey.

Golden Goal

Technically full game highlights here, but they’re of great international importance so we’ll let it slide. Two of these goals are scored by Eastview senior Natalie Snodgrass, including the overtime game-winner, which helped Team USA capture the 2016 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship in January. There were 16 Minnesotans on Team USA’s roster of 22 players. WATCH

Backes with the Backhand

“Backes with the backhander” has such a nice ring to it. The Spring Lake Park product shows high-level skill and awareness here. Notice him without the puck – he finds a small pocket of open ice to create a passing lane. His teammate finds him, but Backes has almost zero time and space to make a play. Small-area games help develop this kind of decision-making and skill work.

Bar Down Boeser

Burnsville’s Brock Boeser is a handyman. The 2015 NHL first-rounder makes it look effortless in the shootout. Fake forehand to backhand to forehand and straight to the attic. WATCH

No Need to Pannek

There’s a lot to like here. Plymouth native Kelly Pannek first creates the turnover with a neutral-zone poke check, then gets open on the transition for her teammate. As the pass comes, she has the awareness to disrupt the Wisconsin defender’s stick to ensure the pass isn’t broken up. And then, on the breakaway, she doesn’t … panic. She calmly finds the top shelf – in overtime – to help the Gophers complete the sweep against the Badgers.

6 Seconds

The state high school hockey tournament gets a lot of hype – and deservedly so. But the section tournaments are hidden gems. On Thursday night (Feb. 25), Grand Rapids and Duluth East played an instant classic at AMSOIL in front of almost 6,100 people for the Class 2A Section 7 championship – and a ticket to state. Senior Alex Adams scored the game-winner for Grand Rapids with just 6 seconds left in regulation. WATCH

Pony Up

Not a huge deal. Just an overtime game-winning spin-o-rama to send Stillwater to The Tourney. Gavin Holland’s stretch pass to Noah Cates is a thing of beauty. Then, Cates has the wherewithal and confidence to do a 360 around the defenseman, protecting the puck, and powering to the front of the net to bury the biscuit while crashing into the net. The ensuing celebration with the student section at sold-out Aldrich Arena showed the world once again how passionate we are about hockey in Minnesota. The video went viral and it was named the No. 1 play on SportsCenter.

Amazing Stillwater hockey goal

It isn’t often that you see a Boys Section Finals hockey game go to overtime scoreless. It’s even more rare that you see a goal like Stillwater’s Noah Cates score to give his team a 1-0 victory over Hill-Murray to earn a spot in the Boys State hockey tournament.

BONUS VIDEO: The Chop

Elk River Squirt Ryan Rothfork shows off his moves. His dance moves, that is. The 9-year-old goaltender, nicknamed “Chop,” decided it was time to bust a move between whistles. Who wouldn’t want Chop on their squad?
