The Little Lady Lumberjacks Hockey program in Bemidji, MN is gaining attention for its efforts and success in encouraging young girls to try hockey. Lakeland News, a non-profit media organization in north central Minnesota, recently featured the intro to hockey program in its Community Spotlight segment (below).

In its first year, participation in the Little Lady Lumberjacks has far exceeded expectations with 74 players currently in the program.

Some of the success can be attributed to the cooperative effort of hockey leaders in Bemidji to get the Little Lady Lumberjacks started, as well as the program's focus on providing these young girls with a fun, low cost environment to try hockey with their friends.

Coaches and players from Bemidji High School and Bemidji State University have been actively involved from the beginning. In fact, Bemidji's girls varsity head coach Jacqueline Robertson is the program coordinator and was one of the driving forces behind the program. Robertson worked with Bemidji Youth Hockey to apply for and secure a Pass the Puck Grant through Minnesota Hockey to help fund the program.

Congratulations to Bemidji on the early success of the Little Lady Lumberjacks! We hope the community continues to rally around the program, and in a few years, more girls are playing hockey in Bemidji than ever before.
