October is a special time of year for hockey fans, players and parents. The NHL’s social media campaign #IsItOctoberYet has been wildly popular as people across country associate October with the start of hockey season.
It isn’t just adults either.
For New Prague Hockey, their Girls 10U team instinctively knows It’s Time too. See how Lily (and her dog Bruin) rallies her friends and teammates to get to the rink for Girls Hockey Weekend:
It’s Time is the first in a series of short commercials produced by New Prague Hockey and Steep Hill Films that will be used to grow the game in New Prague. The rest of the videos will be introduced at a premier night with all of their players invited to watch and enjoy the hockey productions. Then, they will be promoted via social media, in K-4 classrooms and at events like school open houses.
The idea for the series was developed by Joe Moravchik, Coordinator for Marketing, Recruitment & Retention, for New Prague Hockey and his wife Chris while observing their 10 and 12 year old hockey daughters interact with friends.
“Much of how our daughters interact with their friends, even when they are all hanging out together, is through social media and continually sending one another pictures and brief film clips,” said Moravchik. “They all seem to have a lot of fun creating and sending each other the video clips. We thought, why not capitalize on that for hockey recruiting - have the kids be a part of producing short films and use the social media outlets that they are so familiar with to recruit their peers to hockey.”
To implement the plan, Joe first wrote for and received a Minnesota Hockey Pass the Puck Grant. The grant is designed to reward innovated ideas to recruit and retain hockey players. He then managed to land the talented and up-and-coming Steep Hill Films to partner on the project. Finally, he introduced the idea to the young hockey players in the program, and getting them on-board to produce hockey commercials was easy – the kids couldn’t wait to be a part of such a fun project.
