With so many talented hockey players from Minnesota playing beyond high school, it can be hard to keep up with all of them. For that reason, Minnesota Hockey is proud to bring you this weekly recap of Minnesota players that are honored by the top junior, collegiate and professional leagues so that you can keep an eye on all of your former teammates, rivals and alumni.

Taylor Mattson

Forward, Orlando Solar Bears

Mound, Minn.

 Matson scored three goals, assisted on four others and was a +6 in three games last week as the Solar Bears extended their club-record winning streak to nine games.

 The 25-year old had an assist in a 7-3 win at Toledo on Friday, tallied a pair of goals - including the game-winner - in a 4-3 victory against the Walleye on Saturday and had four points (1g-3a) and was a +3 in a 4-3 overtime win at Kalamazoo on Sunday.

 A native of Mound, Minn., Matson has 30 points (12g-18a) and is fourth among ECHL rookies in plus-minus with a +17 in 22 games. He has also appeared in 30 American Hockey League games with Iowa, posting five points (3g-2a).

Selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round (176th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Matson recorded 42 points (21g-21a) in 108 career games at the University of Minnesota.

CCM Defenseman of the Week

Jared Kolquist

D, Lincoln Stars

Skating in his second USHL season, the 20-year-old registered four assists and a plus-five rating to help the Stars win two of three games during the week.  Tuesday night against the Dubuque Fighting Saints, the Hermantown, Minnesota native dished out three assists and tied a game high plus-three rating in a 6-3 win.  It was the 100th game of his USHL career.  He added another assist on Friday night in a 4-2 loss to the Tri-City Storm.  The defenseman rounded out the weekend with a game high plus-two rating in Sunday’s 5-4 win over the Storm.  He was also instrumental on special teams as the Stars finished the three-game stretch converting 4-of-12 power plays and killing off 9-of-11 shorthanded situations.  Headed to Merrimack College following his USHL career, Kolquist has 18 points (1g, 17a) in 45 games this season.
