Congratulations to Becki Boldt of White Bear Lake Area Hockey Association (WBLAHA)! Becki has been selected as the Total Hockey Volunteer of the Month in honor of her efforts with various youth hockey organizations.

Becki first got involved with youth hockey when her son started in Anoka. For five years, she volunteered for the Anoka Area Hockey Association (AAHA), organizing the Anoka Hockey Mom’s Club and reinvigorating the Skaters Keep Achieving Through Education (S.K.A.T.E.) program for AAHA.

When their family moved to the eastern side of the metro area, Becki continued to volunteer for youth hockey, this time for WBLAHA.  In her first year, Becki served as their Sponsorship Coordinator before moving to the role of team manager this season.

Over the past year and a half though, Becki has moved beyond helping a single youth hockey association.  She has started a non-profit organization called Hockey Moms USA with the mission of enabling less fortunate youth to play hockey by helping them cover fees, attain equipment and even attend summer camps.  Modeled after Defending the Blue Line, which primarily assists the children of veterans, Becki hopes to build the organization to where she can provide financial assisstance to kids throughout Minnesota and even across the country.

The best news is the hard work is starting to pay off as Hockey Moms USA has gained remarkable momentum over the past few months.  The NHLPA just awarded them an equipment grant worth $20,000.  Former Olympian and Stanley Cup Champion, Bret Hedican, has pledged his support along with White Bear Lake native Ryan Carter of the New Jersey Devils.  In addition, Doc DelCastillo, Head Men’s Hockey Coach at Hamline University, has agreed to host a hockey camp for the organization this coming summer.

Becki, Hockey Moms USA and their supporters are likely to have a very significant impact on youth hockey in Minnesota in the near future. Thank you for all of your hard work!

Do you know someone that should be considered for the Total Hockey Volunteer of the Month award?  If so, nominate him or her now!  One volunteer will be featured each month.  That volunteer will also receive a $50 Total Hockey gift card.  In addition, five sets of starter hockey gear will be contributed in his/her name to their association, courtesy of Total Hockey.
