National Dizzy and Balance Center (NDBC), in partnership with Minnesota Hockey, announced today its inaugural Concussion Awareness Week.  NDBC will offer youth hockey associations in Minnesota the opportunity to provide their players and teams with free baseline testing and parent education the week of Dec. 9th – 15th.

On Monday, December 9th and Wednesday, December 11th, NDBC will host a series of four concussion clinics running from 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM at their Edina location. The concussion clinics will be open to registered Minnesota Hockey participants ages 10-19.  A maximum of 20 players will be allowed to participate in each session.

The clinic will consist of two main components. All of the players will take an ImPACT test which will be reviewed by a certified ImPACT specialist.  Meanwhile, parents will participate in an educational session on concussions that will be led by NDBC’s experts.

"I've seen firsthand the positive impact participating youth hockey can have on kids,” said Jennifer Ginkel of National Dizzy and Balance Center. “Unfortunately, I've also witnessed the damage concussions can have on kids' everyday life. Baseline tests are so important when it comes to diagnosing and managing concussions that every hockey player, and really any kid with an active lifestyle, should take one."

NDBC is a leader in not only Minnesota, but the entire Midwest, in offering the most accurate baseline testing to active kids and adults. Baseline tests play a critical role in concussion awareness as they have been shown to be the most effective way to detect concussion symptoms.  They also provide an important tool for parents to make return to play decisions when an athlete does incur a concussion.

Registration is now open at the link below. If an entire team is interested in participating, please contact Minnesota Hockey directly to ensure there are enough remaining seats for your desired time.  In the event interest exceeds available openings, NDBC may host an additional set of clinics on Saturday, December 14th.
