Attract new players and make hockey more accessible in your community by securing an equipment grant through Gear Up Minnesota!

The Gear Up Minnesota! equipment grant program is currently accepting applications for the 2013-2014 season. Equipment grants from Gear Up Minnesota! assist youth associations across the state in attracting new players and making hockey more accessible.

In just three years, Gear Up Minnesota! has provided 91 unique associations with over 1,400 sets of starter hockey equipment. With each set including a hockey bag, helmet, breezers, gloves, elbow and shin pads from well-known equipment manufacturers like Reebok and CCM, this program provides young hockey players with safe, reliable equipment that promotes a positive experience.

Sibley Area Youth Hockey Association used sets of Gear Up Minnesota! equipment to help outfit over 40 Try Hockey For Free participants on Nov. 2nd.

“We are thrilled to have supplied over 50% of Minnesota youth hockey associations with much needed new gear over the last three years,” says Total Hockey’s Katy Benoit.  “We look forward to continuing to spread the joy of hockey for years to come.”

It takes planning, creativity, and hard working volunteers for associations to be effective in growing the game of hockey. Whether it is a unique idea that has never been done before or a program that worked really well at another association, the Gear Up Minnesota! program can boost your recruiting and retention efforts by providing four to nine year olds with the equipment they need and reducing the barriers to entry.

Is your association planning a major recruiting effort next season to capitalize on the excitement from this year’s Olympic games? Could you use some help with marketing and incentives?  Apply now for a Gear Up Minnesota! grant and let us enhance your growth initiatives with starter sets of equipment.

All applications will be reviewed in the spring of 2014 by a granting committee consisting of representatives from Minnesota Hockey, USA Hockey, and the contributing sponsors. Grants will likely be for starter hockey equipment, but all requests will be considered.  Grants will be delivered prior to the start of the 2014-15 season.

A special thank you to the Minnesota Wild Foundation, Total Hockey, Shock Doctor, West Bend Insurance, Subway and our other partners for making Gear Up Minnesota! a success.
