Nominate a leader in your association for the Total Hockey Volunteer of the Month!

Across the country, most people within the hockey community are aware of Minnesota’s hockey tradition. They know Minnesota has been a leader in youth participation and the development of elite talent for decades. What they may fail to recognize is the reason for that success.

For those that have grown up in Minnesota, it is almost second nature. Minnesota hockey is all about community-based hockey. Kids play hockey where they live or go to school, at city rinks and for volunteer-run associations.  Unfortunately, that comfort level with the Minnesota model can lead to a situation where people forget how special it is and what it takes for the model to be effective.

“Minnesota's community-based hockey succeeds because of its passionate volunteers,” says Katy Benoit of Total Hockey.  “We honor those volunteers who are role models for our kids; working tirelessly to give them the tools to be the best on the ice and in their community.”

Total Hockey has been an ardent supporter of Minnesota’s community-based hockey model and dedicated volunteer base since 2010.  Each year Total Hockey recognizes five volunteers for their efforts through the Total Hockey Volunteer of the Month program.

Volunteers of the Month are featured in the Minnesota Hockey Newsletter, Let’s Play Hockey, and on the Minnesota Hockey website. That volunteer also receives a $50 Total Hockey gift card in recognition of their hard work. In addition, five sets of starter hockey gear are contributed in his/her name to their association, courtesy of Total Hockey.

“When Minnesota players are thinking about who to thank for their love of the game, we know it is the volunteers who stand out,” said Benoit. “Thank you!”

Do you know someone in your association that deserves to be recognized as the Total Hockey Volunteer of the Month? We bet you do! Now, all you have to do is fill out an application to nominate him or her.
