Minnesota Hockey has released the details of its Coach Development Program for the 2013-14 season. The Minnesota Hockey Coach Development Program consists of a series of free clinics designed to continually improve the experience and development opportunities we provide our coaches and players.

These clinics are separate from the Coach Education Program (CEP) seminars through USA Hockey and are not required. However, they do provide our volunteer coaches across the state with a unique development opportunity: the ability to learn from the top coaches in the state without the burden of travel or a financial investment.

Our talented team of coaches will come directly to your association to host these two-part 90-minute clinics that provide classroom and on-ice instruction. Clinic options (on-ice/classroom):

Fundamental Skills / Practice Development – This session will cover the basic benefits of station based practices, small area games, ABC's of athleticism and practice-to-game ratios. On the ice, the Coach Development Team will demonstrate how to incorporate a variety of skills into each practice using these concepts.

Skills Progression / Player Development Process – This clinic will center on long term athlete development. Important topics to be included are windows of trainability, the progression of skill development and training intensity over a players’ career.

Body Positioning / Small Area Training – The classroom training will focus on the role body contact and positioning have in the game, particularly along the boards and in small areas, and how small area training helps develop those skills. On-ice drills will highlight a variety of drills that teach body positioning skills that enhance personal safety, proper body contact/checking and increase the chances of winning one-on-one battles in tight spaces.

Dry Land Training / Off-Ice Training – Off-ice training is an important element in the development of athletes. This clinic will detail dry land training methods including age appropriate drills for building agility, balance, body contact, speed, strength and stick skills. This session does not include an on-ice component but will contain a similar demonstration session in a dry land training area.
