The USA Hockey Player Development Camps have transitioned from New York to Minnesota as the Boys’ Select camps finished up on July 20th.  The Girls Select 14 and 15 camps are currently taking place in St. Cloud at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

During the Boys’ Select 15 camp, the representatives from Minnesota had another strong showing.  Joey Anderson, who played varsity for Hill-Murray this past season, led the Minnesotans in scoring with three goals and seven assists for 10 points (tied fourth for entire camp).  Kiefer Bellows (Edina Bantam AA) finished tied for second in the camp in goals with six.  Ryan Edquist, a native of Lakeville, played well between the pipes allowing the fifth fewest goals in the camp, posting a .903 save percentage.

“This was one of our top 15 year-old camps in recent memory,” said Mike MacMillan, Director of the Reebok Minnesota Hockey High Performance Programs. “Any time you can have four or five of the top players in the country from one state you feel pretty good. I think what makes this year really stand out though was our depth.”

All of the players that participated in the Boys’ Select 15 camp were selected based on their performance in the Reebok Minnesota Hockey High Performance Programs this past spring.  The players also took part in the Herb Brooks National Prep Camp in early July in preparation for the national camp.

The Reebok Minnesota Hockey High Performance Programs are conducted in conjunction with USA Hockey and are referred to as “Select” programs in other parts of the country. The national festivals/camps are used by USA Hockey to identify the top performers in each age group for possible opportunities to represent the U.S.A. at advanced levels of national and international hockey competition.
