New York Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh, a former Cretin-Derham Hall star who won the Mr. Hockey Award in 2007, signed a six-year contract extension worth $28.2 million.

McDonagh, who led the Raiders to their only state championship in 2006 as a junior, scored four goals and had 19 points in 47 games for the Rangers last season. His average of 24:21 in ice time per game was second only to defense partner Dan Girardi's 25:24.

McDonagh played in the Reebok Minnesota Hockey High Performance Programs (formerly Advanced Programs) as a 15, 16 and 17 year old.  Two of those three years he was chosen to represent Minnesota at the USA National Player Development Camps.
