The Reebok Minnesota Hockey High Performance Programs ramp up with the Boys’ and Girls’ HP 16 & 17 Spring Festivals this weekend. As the premier development opportunity for boys and girls hockey players ages 15-18 in Minnesota, the Reebok Minnesota Hockey High Performance Programs provide the top players from each district or section a chance to play with and against the best players in the state.
The Reebok Minnesota Hockey High Performance Programs are a prestigious series of tryouts, camps, and festivals that have been designed to identify and develop Minnesota hockey players into the best in the world. These programs are conducted in conjunction with USA Hockey and are referred to as “Select” programs in other parts of the country.
“We’re thrilled to begin another spring and summer filled with showcasing the best hockey players our state has to offer,” said High Performance Director, Mike MacMillan. “The Spring Festivals are a great opportunity for these players to display their abilities and make an impression on the coaches and scouts at the next levels of hockey.”
Mario Lucia (Wayzata) participated in the HP 17 Final 54 camp in 2010. In his first season with Notre Dame, Lucia was selected to the 2013 CCHA All Rookie Team, despite missing the first nine games with a broken leg.
The top 20-25 players will be selected to represent Minnesota Hockey at a national festival/camp, sponsored by USA Hockey, which involves the best players from each of the USAH districts. The national festivals/camps are used by USAH to identify the top performers in each age group for possible opportunities to represent the U.S.A. at advanced levels of national and international hockey competition.
The Reebok Minnesota Hockey High Performance Programs continue to set the bar for excellence, consistently displaying and developing Minnesota's top hockey players. Looking back to the 2010 HP 17 Final 54, which is the most recent group to have played at least one full season beyond high school, a total of 28 players have already played or are committed to play at the Division I level and eight of them participated in this year's NCAA tournament.
