Summary

This week's Drill of the Week comes from Aaron Fulton who is in his 6th season as the Head Coach of the Eastview High School Boys Hockey team. Aaron has been coaching for over 20 years and has also helped coach in Minnesota Hockey's CCM High Performance and Tier I Leagues.

DESCRIPTION

  • To start, F1 and F2 skate around the tire in the neutral zone. D1 comes from the other side and times themselves to transition backwards with enough time.
  • F1 and F2 go 2 vs. 1 against D1.
  • After the completion of the first 2 vs. 1, the same thing happens on the other side with F3, F4 and D2.
  • F1, F2 and D1 must get back to the other side of the ice. F1 and F2 join D2 on defense, and D1 joins F3 and F4 on offense.
  • Upon the completion of that play, F1, F2 and D1 leave the play, and F3, F4 and D2 skate hard to the other side of the ice.

KEY POINTS

  • Make sure to avoid the tire in the middle.
  • Find a way to get the offensive D-man involved.
  • Skating hard; getting the heart rate up.
  • Back checking.
