Return of Futures Development Program and More

St. Paul, MN – October 18, 2023 – Minnesota Hockey will be expanding its Spring programming in 2024. With programs designed to promote skill and athletic development, these programs will be available for female and male athletes with 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 birth years.

Futures Development Program: Building on the success of last year’s 13U Futures Development Program, Minnesota Hockey will again facilitate a 13U program (for 2011 and 2012 birth years) as well as a new 15U classification (for 2009 and 2010 birth years). The Futures Development Program is an on-ice program operated by Districts to provide hockey players with an affordable, local developmental opportunity. The 13U program will run from late-March through mid-May, while the 15U program will run from early-April through late-May. Open to players of all backgrounds and experiences (including players who do not advance beyond Phase I of the High Performance Program), the program will consist of 13 hours of skill development as well as competitive 3v3 and 5v5 events. Registration for the Futures Development Program will be available in early-November.

Next Level Prep: New this Spring will be Next Level Prep - a pilot program centered on meaningful athletic development, primarily away from the rink. Tying together contemporary best practices, Minnesota Hockey will provide a platform for players to experience and learn about training methods that will foster confidence and continuous improvement in hockey and beyond. In 2024, this pilot program will be conducted in Golden Valley, MN, with intentions to provide more sites in the future. There will be program options for 13U athletes (2011 and 2012 birth years) and 15U athletes (2009 and 2010 birth years). Participating athletes will have access to 10-15 hours of instructor-led and technology-supported training, oriented around a carefully curated curriculum that focuses on speed, quickness, acceleration, agility, cognition, coordination, strength, endurance, balance, and overall physical literacy. With the program slated to run in May and June, registration will be available by or before January 2024.

Minnesota Hockey remains committed to supporting growth within the game and the long-term development of all Minnesota youth players.
